Onyx not heating up

Post by Nazulle »

I've had my Rostock MAX v2 for about two weeks now and my printer is already having problems with the heated bed. I print using hatchbox ABS with the standard 80 degree Celsius bed and the hotend at 215 degrees Celsuis. The hotend heats up just fine but the bed doesn't heat up at all. I unscrewed the bed a little bit, maybe the screws were too tight but it still is not working. All the wires are fine and connected and there is no bridging between the soldered wires. I lift the bed up to check the wires underneath and everything seems fine. its all covered in kapton tape so its pretty hard for the wires to get out of place. I tested the heat with the bed lifted and it started rising? to i put it down on the printer and its still rising fine. I turn off the bed so i can screw it back on to the printer, I level the bed, turn on the onyx again and it doesnt work... again. Anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance :)

First thing out check the thermister for an open. Then test the resistance ( ohms) across the leads disconnected from the Rambo board, then move and flex the leads to see if that causes an open ( infinite resistance) across the heated bed. If you find something an intermittent open, then where ever your flexing is close to the problem. These thin wires can be very fragile. If nothing showed up try flexing the onyx board itself, only slightly. If an open shows then its the onyx board? I had a lot of problems with the connections to the Rambo. Always check your connections first. Good luck J.R.

He is saying that you purchase or borrow a multimeter that can read ohms and using the ohms function of the multimeter to perform the tests that he mentions. If you have no basic knowledge of what a multimeter is and how to use one perhaps you can\
find a friend that can help and teach you how to use one.
