Official De-Lurking In Progress

Post by wcarver1 »

Hello all, Wil Carver from Denver here, otherwise known as wcarver1. I'm a long-winded manufacturing engineer and ex-CTO from the aerospace industry, currently working for MSU Denver on an advanced manufacturing grant. We're incorporating advanced manufacturing into the base engineering curriculum, in addition to providing new certificates in direct digital manufacturing and advanced composites. This means we get all kinds of new toys, including a few different flavors of additive manufacturing.

I've been working with our RMax V2 since October; it's currently set up with dual E3D V6 hot ends, modified extruders and a full enclosure. This machine (Groucho) will shortly have two new RMax V2s to keep it company (Harpo & Chico) in addition to our DropLit (Zeppo). As of last Thursday I've clocked 1,000 hours of print time on Groucho and learned a lot in the process.

I'm big on sharing and education, so I've posted the majority of my designs on Thingiverse and I'm happy to answer questions and contribute to discussions. (It is in that spirit that I've managed to secure ongoing funding to provide 3D printing services to all of our engineering students free of charge (yes, even the dirt pushers), so if anyone is looking for a university to attend...)

I thank you all for being such a great resource and I look forward to contributing to this online community.

Side note: it seems like this community has a preference for Repables.com; I can repost files there if that is the case

Welcome to the community! I'm fairly new here myself, so I thought I would say hello! Your situation sounds interesting, which is one of the reasons I responded. I think it is awesome that you guys are making this part of your curriculum at the school. When I was an engineering student we did not have anything like this, and I think it would have been really beneficial to learning engineering, especially mechanical. Anyway, I'm a bit long-winded myself, so I will close with saying welcome again, and hope to see you around the forums!
