I've been having this problem for the last week or so now where the printer will randomly stop extruding, sometimes it works fine, sometimes I'll go check on the printer and it will be still running at some point above where it stopped extruding and isn't extruding anything, sometimes the print will complete and when I look at it it's visible on the outside surface that it occasionally stopped extruding for a little bit then started back up so there are little single layer gaps in the surface, sometimes it stops for more than a layer and then starts back up so I come back to a spaghetti monster, and sometimes the prints completely with no issues. With it being intermittent I have no clue what could be causing it, the one thing I do know is the nozzle is not jammed when it happens because I can manually push the filament thru the hotend just fine.
For reference I'm still running a mostly stock RostockMAX V1 with the exceptions of an E3D V6 hotend, Tricklaser CF arms, and an enclosed build chamber.

My first thought is that the stepper driver is shutting down from heat. How's your rambo cooling?

Re: Printer randomly stops extruding
I have the 40mm fan that came with the printer pulling air in thru the opening under the LCD display and blowing it on the Rambo, however the fan has been making noise and is definitely on it's way out and I was going to be replacing it, that would be nice if that's simply the problem, when I try printing tonight I'll throw another fan there and see if that makes a difference. The room the printer is in is a warmer room too, no A/C and a dehumidifier running in the room which warms it up.

What filament are you using, have you tried something else to see if it does the same thing.
I've had issues like this with PLA and an earlier E3D, the V6 is supposed to have resolved this issue though.
I've also seen it with several of the Taulman filaments, they tend to be slightly oversized and the EZ Struder struggles to push them through the bowden tube.

I'm using Hatchbox ABS, I've been having this issue with 2 different spools which I've tried since this problem started, and both of those spools printed perfectly before this problem started.

Re: Printer randomly stops extruding
I've had issues similar to this since I finished my printer. It seems like if the stepper driver was overheating, the other steppers would be effected as well. But I'm no expert. OP, did you add a fan and try it again yet?

I did add an 80mm fan pointed at the Rambo, no luck still the same problem.
Re: Printer randomly stops extruding
So I think I found the issue, I sat here and watched it till it stopped extruding, the extruder was still turning, I stopped the print and was able to push the filament thru by hand, so I shut down the printer took about the extruder and the hobbed drive roller's grooves were filled with bits/powder of filament, I put it in some acetone to clean it out, put everything back together as so far it's been working fine.

Re: Printer randomly stops extruding
You know, when I first started printing, I had a problem with not running the nozzle hot enough and stripped a bunch of filament on the extruder. I wonder if I have the same problem... I'll report back after I clean it this weekend.
