Installing vibration dampers to the motors?

Hello All,

I actually haven't got started on my kit yet. I'm still waiting for my rostock to be freed from customs! But I have done some reading up on
this damper upgrade which sounds great and much easier to install while assembling the kit. I understand that the dampers bolt directly
onto the stepper motors so 3 dampers in total would be required? But once the dampers are mounted would this not push the gear
on the motor shaft OUT of alignment with the idle bearings/pulleys?? Or am I missing something fundamental? I have been going through the
manual again and I can't see how this alignment problem can be avoided without some re-configuration. Does the gear on the shaft moved
further up the motor shaft to compensate for the dampers width? I am sure there is an easy answer to this

You seem to have it figured out.

You mount the gear with an offset.

Yes, the gear/pulley slides on the shaft so you can adjust the depth.

Don't use red threadlocker... believe me.
All my motors have them and it's impossible to remove the gear shaft.

Nice one. Thanks guys. I sort of thought that offsetting the gears had to be the way. I have ordered some
blue medium thread locker but I don't want to apply the stuff and then have a job removing grub screws in
case I need to adjust. Now I just need to order the dampers.

If you want to make the set screw immune to vibration but you don't want it to be permanently glued in there like LockTite, dab some silicone on the threads. You can use the high temp silicone that you assemble the hot-end with, since you'll already have it around.

A local racing engine shop uses silicone almost exclusively on their builds, and they swear by it over using threadlocker.

One of the noisiest motors on my machine was the extruder motor. Man, it would send vibrations up the support to be amplified in the top box and make an awful racket. Thankfully someone recommended putting felt at the corners where the nema motor touches the support, and that helped a TON. I hope thats useful to someone. If it's not clear enough, I can take a photo.
