PEEK fan model number

Post by Adolfo.91 »

hello forum, I tried searching on google, the forum and the manual for the PEEK fan model with no luck, maybe if someone is feeling generous you could check out on your printer for it.

Reason why is that it wasn't included in my package and I just got to finish building it, I have no idea who's fault it was, be it packing it or at customs (I live in Mexico) and I don't wanna be a pain in the butt to the guys at seemecnc by asking for one, mainly because its expensive and a hassle to send it over here.

Stupid question: is it really that important to have one running on the printer?

Thanks!!! :D

Here is a suitable unit. http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... 2121316_-1 though I would prefer one with ball bearings if they had it.

Worth a search of Amazon or ebay, too. Spec is 25x25x10mm, 12VDC, 2-2.5CFM.

If your location is that remote (as is mine)
Then i would print something that takes a standard fan. There are lots of designs out there.

Also seemecnc will take care of you. Sometimes things get forgotten, but they do their best to make it right.

Thanks for the amazingly quick info!

I have thought of contacting them but shipping is gonna be worth waaaaaay more than the fan because standard post gets "lost" a lot over here. Also I'd hate to be That guy haha what I'll do is look for a fan here that fits and if I find it then thats that, if I don't then I'll contact them

I went to a couple places looking for the fan and either mexico is way behind on components or normal people have no idea what I'm looking for. I'll keep looking tomorrow at this one store that resells used computer parts and try my luck

All in all, what is the deal with the PEEK fan? What's it for specifically? Could I use the printer with it without any damage to it?

PEEK is a kind of plastic. The grey finned section of the stock hot end is made of PEEK. The "PEEK fan" blows air across the fins. PEEK melts above 247C, which is a only a few degrees higher than nozzle temperatures used for printing ABS. Actively cooling the PEEK section with a fan is a good idea.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?LH_BIN=1 ... an&_sop=15 is what you're looking for, and they're pretty cheap if you can wait for the free shipping from china.

There's no reason you can't use slightly larger 12V fans (30x30x10 or 40x40x10) to achieve the desired result if that's all you can find. You're more likely to find those sizes locally. You just have to adjust your mounting and ductwork designs to match. Which could be as simple as zip ties and tinfoil to start with.

In the computer industry, you're mostly likely to find all of those sizes as heatsink coolers on old motherboards or graphics cards. Those tiny fans tended to be the first things to fail in those applications, so I wouldn't expect too much from the used market.

After about 5 days looking for one here in my city, I found one, expensive for what it is, used, broken and a bit faulty haha (sometimes it runs, sometimes it doesn't) but I installed it and it sometimes works, which is better than nothing on there i guess. I looked at how much it costs from seemecnc and the fan is at a reasonable price, shipping is what made me back down, over 50 usd (to make sure it isn't stolen) so I don't think the guys at HQ would even think of authorizing the replacement (not really replacing since it was never in the package to begin with but you get the idea) hahaha
