Checking true hotend temps

So I have a non contact temp gun and it seems to work accurately. I can't find a spot on my hotend that measures above 80 degrees C. I don't seem to have an issue printing but I was just curious if others have found this too. Oh and the temp gun is rated to 750 degrees C.

IR thermometers are not reliable for very small or shiny objects. The hot end is both.

You need to purchase a multimeter that has a thermocouple function built in like this one from Amazon.com -

The high reflectivity of the heat block and or nozzle prevents the IR type of temperature gun from displaying the correct temperature.

Harbor freight has a DMM with a thermocouple for about $20 if you're interested in a "walk in" purchase instead of online.

Ok thank you guys for the input. I have a "nice" craftsman multi-meter that has this function. Might look into getting an attachment for this purpose.

I'm using a Fluke thermometer that I used to use at work. It's pricey though. I'm not sure how accurate it is now since I haven't calibrated it in over 8 years. It seems to be accurate at room temp anyways. It matches what the LCD says and other devices... W/ that said, I've found my hot end to be 20C over what it's set at sometimes. Not sure if you guys are getting the same.
