Checking true hotend temps
So I have a non contact temp gun and it seems to work accurately. I can't find a spot on my hotend that measures above 80 degrees C. I don't seem to have an issue printing but I was just curious if others have found this too. Oh and the temp gun is rated to 750 degrees C.

Re: Checking true hotend temps
IR thermometers are not reliable for very small or shiny objects. The hot end is both.

You need to purchase a multimeter that has a thermocouple function built in like this one from Amazon.com -
http://www.amazon.com/AGPtek%C2%AE-Digi ... uple+meter
Or this one - http://www.amazon.com/Extech-MN35-Digit ... uple+meter
The high reflectivity of the heat block and or nozzle prevents the IR type of temperature gun from displaying the correct temperature.

Or, if you already have a decent DMM, you can buy just the thermocouple thermometer for twenty bucks, http://www.amazon.com/Signstek-6802-Cha ... B00FFYEPVQ

Harbor freight has a DMM with a thermocouple for about $20 if you're interested in a "walk in" purchase instead of online.

Re: Checking true hotend temps
Ok thank you guys for the input. I have a "nice" craftsman multi-meter that has this function. Might look into getting an attachment for this purpose.
Re: Checking true hotend temps
I'm using a Fluke thermometer that I used to use at work. It's pricey though. I'm not sure how accurate it is now since I haven't calibrated it in over 8 years. It seems to be accurate at room temp anyways. It matches what the LCD says and other devices...
W/ that said, I've found my hot end to be 20C over what it's set at sometimes. Not sure if you guys are getting the same.
