LCD Installation Guide
LCD Installation Guide
The new LCD Installation Guide is available for download from:
http://www.geneb.org/rostock-max/lcd-in ... -guide.pdf
This guide covers the wiring of the panel, but not the mechanical installation. I may update the manual in the future if I update my machine with the new LCD door mount.
If you see any errors, please yell so I can get the guide updated!

Re: LCD Installation Guide
Haven't tried it yet, but thanks a lot!
Re: LCD Installation Guide
You're quite welcome! Note that there _might_ be a wiring error in the guide - I built a cable harness for it last night and while the power & address lines are ok, the wires handling the rotary encoder and the reset button are wrong. I haven't had a chance to ping out the harness to see if I made a mistake in my wiring, or my description of the wiring. I'll post a note here about it either way.

Version 1.1 of the guide is posted (same link as above) and I've verified the wiring instructions are correct. I may not have seated the connectors fully as it's working great now. Go figure.

Have not tried the wiring yet, but this guide is so much clearer to understand. THANK YOU! Your hard work is very appreciated.geneb wrote:Version 1.1 of the guide is posted (same link as above) and I've verified the wiring instructions are correct. Re: LCD Installation Guide
Matt, you're quite welcome! You'll enjoy the LCD, it's fun to play with.
Note that if you want to use the machine while it's disconnected from a host computer, you'll need to change a jumper on the RAMBo so that it's powered by the PC power supply and not the USB port. I seem to recall John saying something about adding that bit to the Rostock MAX wiki page on reprap.org.

Re: LCD Installation Guide
Quick question.....
What does "100%" on the LCD start up operate or adjust?
What does "100%" on the LCD start up operate or adjust?
Re: LCD Installation Guide
That means that the machine is going to operate at 100% of the setting you used to slice a model. If you turn the knob clockwise, it will speed the printer up. Turning it counter-clockwise will slow it down.

Re: LCD Installation Guide
Awesome writeup.
I had some Rainbow Ribbon cable and a couple of Crimp connectors. This made identifying the wires much easier.

Re: LCD Installation Guide
It's possible to find cheaper connectors on eBay by searching "dupont connector".
Re: LCD Installation Guide
One second guys. We JUST got the RAMBo to LCD adapter PCB's in last week. Here shortly, ALL LCD's that ship with ROMAX kits will have it included in place of the RAMPS adapter. Yeah, we know, it was a PITA to wire up at first, but, being on the absolute edge, you get bruised quicker!
Thanks to os1r1s on teh reprap IRC for hacking it first, and helping with the wiki page.
Check the website shortly. The RAMBo to LCD adapter PCB board comes with all the headers needed, they aren't soldered to the PCB, but only takes a few mins. Once done, it's about as close to plug 'n play as it gets, until arduino updates their software to map all the pins!
It's going on the site tonight.
thanks again guys

Re: LCD Installation Guide
If it hasn't shipped yet, yes. It will come with that in place of the RAMPS connectors, and the new LCD's only come with the shorter cables. The long cables were giving many ppl problems due to them becoming an antenna for all that fun electrical noise stpeers like to give off

I just updated the PDF of the manual. It turns out that in a totally derptastic oversight, I forogot to credit os1r1s! *headdesk*
Fixed! Apologies again to os1r1s for the oversight!

Re: LCD Installation Guide
Is there someway someone could please post some type of pic showing how this thing is mounted. I'm having a hard time visualizing just exactly how it goes. The only part of the printer that has stumped me. Perhaps because I have been building now for about 5 hours with no breaks, LOL!

Re: LCD Installation Guide
Mine is just laying on the table.
I don't have a mount for it. When I have time (ha!) I should probably do something about that...

Re: LCD Installation Guide
Is there an updated manual for how to use the new adapter kit? My kit shipped with a PCB that requires a few connectors soldered to it. I'm worried about my PCB soldering skills, but I'll give it a shot!
(No trees were killed to post this message, but a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.)
Re: LCD Installation Guide
Sorry, no. I don't have one of the new adapter boards. Can someone who does chip in here?
tnx!

Re: LCD Installation Guide
I followed these instructions and the LCD panel is showing white boxes (full brightness, full contrast).
Tools used: Arduino 0023, RAMBo from IndieGoGo campaign (Dec. 2012), LCD screen from Jan. 2013.
I crosschecked the instructions with this page: http://reprap.org/wiki/RamboLCD

Re: LCD Installation Guide
@jesse: I think the best way to find the cheap dupont connectors is that you can search it on the ebay and then find the manufacturer Part number and then just Google it and you will find the different vendors selling the same parts at different price breaks, the price also depends upon the quantity to be purchased.
