Thank you for the kind words about my milling work. It is something I enjoy doing as a hobby very much. Nice to take a break from shooting the cameras and work in CAD/CAM and them mill something out. I am just glad the big move is over and everything is almost back to normal in the mill room once again. I really hope I do not have to move again for a VERY long time! On the plus side though, it is far drier here than Houston and we no longer have the 4 huge reef tanks in the house. So the Max as been printing like a dream and has only been calibrated once since we moved. Back in Houston the humidity caused so many issues that I had to re-calibrate every few weeks to keep everything printing well. So that part along almost makes the move worth it.

Inventables sent me a new X Carve mill and asked me to work on aluminum milling and a few other projects on the new mill which is an update to the Shapeoko design. The new mill has had a ton of upgrades on top of what the X Carve comes with over the Shapeoko to start with. The overall mill is stiffer than the Shapeoko due to the new gantry plates and a redesigned X extrusion over the old plate system on the Shapeoko. I have further done the following changes: Full metal t-slot extrusion bed, Switched from TinyG controller to new Planet CNC MK3 controller board with 4X Leadshine DM442 DSP stepper drivers. Upgrade from stock NEMA 23 140oz motors to new 185oz NEMA 23 motors. I also added a .8KW 1hp 220v VFD water cooled spindle and a forced air chip clearance system. I used to use Chilipeppr for my Gcode interface, but now I use the CNC USB from Planet CNC and I have to say I wish I had done the controller/driver/interface change much sooner.

The Shapeoko now has the spindle holder from the X Carve which was a huge improvement over the old 3D printed one I had (held the spindle too far out). I upgraded the Z axis to belt drive allowing the spindle to be pulled in closer to reduce off axis twisting. The Shapeoko also is now on a Planet CNC MK3/4 controller board with 4X Leadshine DM432C DSP drivers. For now the Shapeoko is still running the old 48V 400W DC spindle. But I plan to upgrade it also to the .8KW water cooled spindle shortly along with a X gantry mod to 40 x 40 Vs the Makerslide. Also will be moving the old X Carve NEMA 23 motors to the Shapeoko shortly.

Both mills are housed in enclosures made partly from wood reclaimed from their large moving creates hence the oddball mixture of wood types.

Hey Guys,

I am putting the final touches on the website and working to get the payment side setup correctly on PayPal. Being that I am a sports photographer and not a web designer, there is a bit of a learning curve I am almost finished with. I am shooting the final product photos tomorrow and we should be up and selling extremely soon. I know I keep saying things to this effect, but we have the mills all dialed in at long last and every run is coming off super nice at last. I did not want to release anything but the best product I am able to make from my setup. I am doing a few final tests on carbon spacer lengths and a few other odds and ends as Michelle works on finishing up the final aspects of the website. I hope the final product will be something everyone feels was worth the extended wait in the end.

Here are a few shots from the last batch run of mounts, these are right off the mill without any finishing at all. Extremely pleased to see such a great finish on the mounts coming right off the mill. It was a bit of a long road to reach this point but I think everyone will like the result.

You can have it in any colour as long as it's black. Or all the other colours...

Hey guys!

Excited to see you guys are still looking forward to the mounts.. So was researching going 24V on my heated bed as me connector on the Rambo cooked off tonight... While I was I ran across a post asking about the Prometheus and if it works in the mount. Well the answer is right here.

It fits great as it is made to the same mount spec as the E3d V6 and most J heads with a 13mm mount surface. I am just working out the best choice of carbon fiber spacer lengths to offer with it. But I should have a few pictures of those up shortly when we launch the site. I am working hard to get the last of the ducks in a row..

As for colors... Starting out it looks like I can offer the following: Black, Sapphire Blue, Bright Blue, Bright Red, Bordeaux Red, 2 shades of Yellow, Green, Orange, Copper, Teal, Purple, Grey and Bronze.

SOME custom color mixing will be done once the first wave of mounts is out the door and I have another large anodizing project out the door and out of the way.

Not sure yet if the carbon fiber lock rings will be released in the first wave. So far testing has been 100% perfect, but not sure I like my carbon fiber sheet supplier yet so only a limited number of the lock rings and mounts in carbon fiber are milled. Further testing and an increase in demand for these items in carbon fiber will decide if they stay around or are just a fluke for now.

Let me know when these are for sale and how much. I have the SeeMeCNC wooden one, and I don't like that it flexes and can't get truly tight and secure. Do you have pictures of the blue colors? I would love a nice deep blue.

We are trying to finish up the website tonight. Here is a shot of the colors we will be offering. I anodized a few of the rejects from calibrating the new CNC mill for some color samples. The Sapphire blue is towards the back on the samples.

Thanks guys! Michelle and I are working like mad to get the site live. We shot for last night but in order to get all the pics online we want, it is still being worked on tonight... We should have it launched tonight and I milled a few surprises for everyone today to add to the selection based on feedback for Bot and a few others.

But I need some help from you guys.. My printer is on the fritz after a move for an event. I posted about it here http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=9119. I'm sort of lost as to what the cause is. I am hoping someone here can spot something I might have missed. We are trying to printout the mailing boxes for the mounts. I will launch without the boxes if I can not fix the printer issue instead of delaying the mounts any longer, but we really want to send out the boxes as well to protect the mount in the mail and give them that "polished" feel when they arrive. Everyone loves opening a cool box to a sweet new piece of tech for their printer!

Anyhow.. We should have everything done well enough to launch the site tonight (that is our goal). I really hope you guys feel the wait was worth it! I'm adding an under mount kit set up for the guys who love to under mount their hot ends. Details on it later today once the final prototype comes off the mill.

Pretty much thinking that too right now. Love the box.. But time for printing and the fritzed out printer are not making boxes look good right now.

Sell it for the same price without the box. Use ziplocks and bubble wrap. Pocket the (time) savings. :)

If you want a fancy box, buy some 1" thick high-density (pink) insulation foam and mill part pockets into it. Break the sheet down on a table saw, stuff parts in and box! :)

That sounds like a great idea and easy to do.. I will pick some up tonight after we launch the site... In a day or two I might see if I can borrow a few mins of your time to see if you can help me understand how my printer got all whacked out... But right now my focus is finishing up the site to launch it. Web design is not my forte but we are managing!

It's the whole "perfection is the enemy of good enough" thing. :)

You could also go so far as to print one part holder and then use it to vacuform a "shipping" version. Would save you a ton of time and money and you'd learn a new skill in the process. :)

To do this I need to figure out why the printer has decided to act crazy even though it is calibrated. it seems to think the bed is shaped like a wave somehow... About to just flash the newest firmware (it is .91 now) and start all over from scratch and see if that fixes it.. I THINK I have ruled out anything being lose or broke and such. It seems like a setting issue at me at this point.

The vacuum forming idea is a cool on though. I think since I have 3 mills I can devote on to making foam boxes for now and get by with that until I can print a vacuum form piece like you suggest once the printer is up and going again.

Well we are almost done with the site.. Paypal is not making it easy to get colors and such set up but we are just about done with the site. While my code Monkey was hard at work I knocked out two two prototypes tonight. I will have more details posted on them in the Am. For new here is a sneak peek at part of the site.. We are close guys! I promise!
