print head problems

Post by Outsider »

I received my Rostock MAX kit a week or so ago. As I unboxed the parts, I was amazed. Parts looked great and the design was good. I am an ex-avionics tech and I know wiring. As I started to assemble the printer, the first step was the hot-end(print head). I saw the parts and the instructions and thought to myself "no, this can't be. this WILL fail" (aircraft training kicking in). I built it as per instructions. The printer came to life and printed fine first try. Then last night, the hot end died. it was a Thermistor failure. I have now ordered parts and will be installing cartridges and plug-in connectors. No more "tape and bailing wire". Although the design works, it is messy and unsafe in my opinion.

I switched over to a E3D hot end . The rostock one with my layer cooling would not stay close to set temp . Installed the E3D and wow what difference

It may be messy, but it's certainly not unsafe.

After going back and reading the post today, I will agree with you that it is safe. What I should have said is that it looks messy and un-professional
