Layer Fan Shroud Issue

Post by Venecha »

So the Peek Fan Casing went well! We were heartened, as this build has been quite the struggle. Then on to the Layer Fan Shroud, which built -mostly- fine (9/10 the way up) but then turned to plastic spaghetti.
Are there any easy, "Oh, I know what -that- is!" solutions? Or was this simply a ~case~ of bad luck?

Update: Attempt #2 started okay, then came unseated and spaghettified again.
Frustrating, since the first thing built fine.

Looks like an adhesion issue, possibly with some others along for the ride. Tell me, is that spagehetti actually standing up? What sort of temps and bed treatments were you using? Have you enabled Z lift? What speeds are you using?

A quick solution might be to use a raft, and some Z lift.

I think that you are seeing the reason that you are printing the layer fan. As the part gets smaller the heat becomes more concentrated in the deposited plastic. Normally, the layer fans help cool this off. The molten mess will tend to grab the nozzle and then things go off the rails.

Until you have fans some things that can help are as simple as printing two or three parts at once. This gives the parts time to cool before the next layer is placed on top. You can also tell you slicer to allow a minimum time say 10 seconds between layers, the nozzle will either slow down to accommodate this requirement or pause between layers.

I think when you get your fans on (I run three) this problem will be in the rear view mirror.
