Newly built kit, stock settings, n00b user

Just though I'd share the first BIG print from the RMV2 assembled in the two days following Christmas, pretty much all stock out of box settings - have not had much time to tweak. Got a spool of PLA in yesterday, some blue tape from the wift and after a cube test print let 'er rip - all night long, display said 8 hours, 41 minutes when done. I'm pretty happy, seems low maintenance, just like a blender or some appliance, just turn it on and use it!

Right now it's doing a (past 5 hours) a Julia fractal vase - which is my interest, mathematically generated objects.

One more easy job - another n00b user, default settings, just d/l something interesting and print it out! This Julia vase I did as a solid, altho I d/l the 'shell' version, then next print just check the box [x] Spiral Vase and re-generate, and got a really nice translucent fractal cup! Wife is actually impressed, she expected nothing but plastic trinket toys but now she's getting excited at the possibilities Even the texture from FDM gives it a nice fabric like feel, instead of just plain smooth.

That open vase truly looks stunning! May I ask what filament you used to create it?

The filament was Hatchbox Transparent Red PLA.

More news from n00bville (Hey, I just figured out how to use 'support material') Ordinary average guy owner. Have had a few filament jams (seems hatchbox glow-in-the-dark and wood PLA have some kind of issue I can't figure out) but the RMV2 just keeps on working, maybe not optimized but works basically with mostly stock settings. HB Transparent Red PLA works flawlessly, slightly more brittle tho.

Oh, reduced the temp from stock 210 to 190 and works better I think.

Today installed MatterControl on Ubuntu box in the shop which is much more horsepower than the notebook I was using (same box runs Mandelbulb3d, Blender, Meshlab, Fiji, etc, has tons of memory and 12 cpu!) and seems to be working.
Just figured out how to print from sd card.

Have been focusing on printing objects from fractals - the Mandelbulb3d voxel export feature (see facebook Mandelbulb Maniacs for some amazing 3d artwork) and really enjoyed making this yesterday:

Prints look great to me, your experimentation is the best way to learn but also learn to keep a log of filaments you have used, color, manufacturer, settings, special slicer settings, etc.
It will be invaluable when 2 years from now you need to use the same filament again. Love the pictures!
