I'm using Mattercontrol almost exclusively. So far my experiences are mixed - but still I like it the interface etc.
Sometimes I have experienced short stops during print (while the extruder just stopped moving completely) for 2-3 seconds. This happened only 2 or 3 times so far. But today during a print out the extruder stopped again and remained in position on the printout without any movement. I had to cancel the print job - and wasted material...
Now I'm trying to print the same file via SD memory card.
Questions:
- What could cause such a malfunction? e.g. is this more matter control related, Rostock Max V2 or the Macbook I'm running the app?
- Is there any disadvantage beside the comfort of using Mattercontrol during print when printing from the SD memory card?
Thanks for any comment on this.

Re: Matter control stops in middle of print
I print from a iMac and use MC. When the iMac goes to sleep the print will interrupt and be done. Change you sleep settings. The only thing I have set is my screen saver and I do not let the iMac go to sleep. This solved The problem for me.
The print stopping for a second or two was when my iMac memory or CPU were doing other things. I would not touch my iMac and it would be OK. I was forced to buy a new iMac and with that increase in RAM and CPU upgrade I've had any trouble with pauses when I use the iMac for other things.
Printing from the SD should solve your issues since your not dependent on the iMac and USB connection.

I use this free app from the apple app store it is insurance if the magsafe power cord is knocked free of the old 2009 vintage mac book pro i use to control the printer to absolutely prevent the computer from sleeping even in low battery power situation it will print with every erg in the battery and run it flat if that should happen which might be enough to save a print.

I use Caffeine to keep my Mac from going to sleep. Really easy. Cup is full, Mac won't sleep. Later, click the cup, it goes empty, and the Mac sleeps normally.

Re: Matter control stops in middle of print
Yeah, I experienced the same issues Using a Windblows PC... Somehow MC (and also RH for that matter) waits for sending a command to the printer until they get an OK from the previous command. That makes it possible to live-pause a print, but complexificates a lot of other things... I have noticed that when I drag the 3d view of my print while printin it, it slows down the communication with the printer. Since then I stepped over to using the not so comfortable SD print method.
A feature to start a print actually stored on the SD from within MC would be very appreciated. I remember that even a cheap thing like the Mini Up can be disconnected from USB after a print starts, so that must work more or less like this feature.

You can get an SD card reader for under $10. I'd recommend using that.

That is nice. I like the idea of forcing it awake only when needed.Dionysus480 wrote:I use Caffeine to keep my Mac from going to sleep. Really easy. Cup is full, Mac won't sleep. Later, click the cup, it goes empty, and the Mac sleeps normally.

I feel like this is more of a problem of the USB controller on the RAMBO, I always have had issues working with that board over USB doing just about anything. I have tried a couple other boards now and none of those have any issues via usb.
Definitely use a SD card, it cures all these issues.

It will be interesting to see how this works with the Duet once installed and running!!
