Printing with larger nozzle sizes (.8mm E3D)?

Post by Shizuma »

Not really sure where to put this, but has anyone ever used larger diameter nozzles on their E3D successfully? I have several different nozzles for my E3d V6, one being a .8mm nozzle, however I simply can't consistently get successful prints with that nozzle, almost every print it ends up printing maybe the first 10-20 layers fine, then it turns into a spaghetti mess, not sure what's going on, if I swap back to the .4mm nozzle it prints fine, but I just can't get the .8mm to print, I double checked my slicer settings to make sure I had the nozzle diameter correct which I did, I even tried slowing the print way down from normal (which defeats the purpose of the larger nozzle) but no dice, my prints still fail constantly.

Hey i wish i had an answer for you but ive never used a .8mm nozzle tho i have been interested for faster prints. Maybe post a picture of the failure so we can get a better idea of what might be the issue.

Yes but I use the E3D Volcano. With a nozzle that big you really either need to slow waaaaayyyy down or have a longer heated zone or turn the temp way up. Of these options, the middle one is addressed by Volcano. You can print fast and at standard temperatures with it.
