Ultimachine went through something like 20 different parts to find one with the characteristics they needed. Andy & John have put in a lot of late nights getting the software done in Repetier.

I suspect that once it's released, it probably won't be too hard to get them to seed a freebie to dc42 to get support added in RRF.

If it acts like a normal switch, no work is needed. Do you know what the interface is like?

I don't. You'll need to ask Andy or John.

If it does act like a switch, then you're right - no additional work would be needed.

I hate the patent system the way it is today. Patents are supposed to protect ideas from being stolen, but the very act of patenting something means you are stealing it from every last person who might've come up with the same idea independently. In this case, the obviousness of the technology is supposed to mean that it can't be patented, but according to you it is. The notion that you need to pay someone royalties just to enclose a machine containing a robotic actuator strong enough to break finger-bones, and a piece of metal that's hot enough to cause third-degree burns, is absurd. It is an abuse of capitalism.

Did I read right that the axis motors are upstairs? Wouldn't that make the printer really top-heavy to move all that mass up there?

Just hold onto it higher up.

What is the advantage of having all the electronics up top? Are you moving the power supply up there as well? i personally like the controls to be at the desk level. Is there an advantage to the printer in the change to the top mount electronics? Seems like it will be more of a pain to always having to reach up to make LCD control adjustments. I like my V2 as is.

For one thing, with motors and electronics up top, the only wiring that would need to run between the top and the bottom would be the bed power instead of hot end power, thermistor, extruder drive, three endstops, and two fans. That's an even more significant benefit if you start looking at ease and feasibility of future dual-extrusion upgrades.

You also have to have USB and Ethernet cables going up there, and if you're an SD card swapper, it will make that a little more annoying. I thought about doing this very thing with my MAX METAL, but I wrote it off for those reasons.

As to calibration...well let's just say it's not gonna take that much work any more. ;)

Must have one to beta test and create docs for, lucky dude.

Not for a while yet. They're still forging new magics into the design. :)
