Extruder PID Autotune not working at 128C! HELP!!!

Post by ameservia »

I just recently purchased a Rostock MAX V2 (unassembled)(4th edition manual) and putting it together was fine, but when I got to the software and calibration, I ran into a problem. When I attempted to run the PID Autotune calibration to test whether the hot end stopped at 200C or not it kept getting hotter. In the manual, it explains that sometimes this is expected, and to change the "Extr.1 PID drive max" to 128. I successfully found and changed this number, but to no avail. The temperature still keeps rising. I even lowered the Extr.1 PID drive max to ten degrees above the minimum, 70, but it still didn't work. What am I doing wrong? can anyone help me??

PID drive max is not a temperature. Considering 256 as 100% duty cycle (heater always on), it is the proportion out of 256 that is the maximum duty cycle the heater is allowed to be on (so 128 means the heater is allowed to be on 50% of the time, etc.). Is the heater staying off until you try to run the heater or is it running away all the time?

go to any of the main web pages like this one https://seemecnc.zendesk.com/hc/en-us and in the lower right corner of their page you will see a blue 'click for chat' box that is live during their biz hours that is a great way to access their super service.

pending that recheck all associated wiring with a fine tooth comb and be sure the thermistor is seated properly and wrapped in tightly with the kapton tape I had problems with it getting loose and tapped the hole 3mm for the potted screw in type you can buy on eBay

It stays off until I turn it on, such as when I try to run the PID autotune program, so I'm pretty sure it isn't exactly the problem I think you are describing. When I run the program, instead of stopping at 10+ or 10- 200, it keeps going above said temperature.

Thanks for the "chat box" suggestion, I'll definitely look into that.

If there was something wrong with the thermistor, wouldn't I also be getting inaccurate temp. readings though? Because that isn't happening. MatterControl shows the accurate room temp. when it should, and also the rising temp. when it should, the temp. just doesn't stop rising.

uh. what temperature are you trying to reach?
PID drive max is the percentage of X/256 = what percent of the time the heater can be on. so for example a value of 128 is 50%. The heater can only be on 50% of the time. If you raise it to 256/256, then the heater can be on 100% of the time. So try raising it more.
Rostock Max V2 with mods:
E3d v6 with 713maker mount & e3d titan extruder
Tricklaser CF arms, heat spreader, tricktrucks, fly-n-strude, metal carriage & effector
Duet v.8.5.0
24v MeanWell 750w PS & Cydom D1D40 SSR in parallel with stock 12v PS

Pages 28 and 29 are what I am trying to accomplish. The temperature I am trying to reach and stay at is 200C. I can get to 200C easily, but it doesn't maintain that temp, it keeps going up, which is the problem.

Are the current P, I, and D values the ones from the build manual?

DISREGARD THIS THREAD, IT HAS BEEN SOLVED.

So apparently for anybody who is curious about this problem or having the same problem, I talked to a Tech Support person on the seemecnc website, and there isn't really any need to calibrate the printer with the autotune function, because of the new power source installed. As long as the red light turns off at your target temperature and maintains that temp, you are fine. If you have more questions about this problem I would suggest going to https://seemecnc.zendesk.com/hc/en-us and talking to tech support in the lower righthand corner of the website. They were extremely helpful!
