Don't know if any of you have dipped your toes in the resin (owww I'm hilarious) at SLA printers, but this is an interesting concept as a lighting device...Using a smart phone
I'm sure most of us have a Smart phone or 4 lying around unused, I am tempted to say the least - here is the kickstarter https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ol ... f=category
What do you guys think worth a dabble at $99? I know with SLA its the resin that kills you cost wise

Re: Olo SLA Kickstarter
Looks very interesting.
I might be interested in getting one for my brother.
I wonder if the resin is proprietary or I can find a resin for it.

When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.

Re: Olo SLA Kickstarter
Reading through their FAQ they say that they specially created their resin for this printer, at $15 per 100ml I'd say its a little bit pricey, as see them for 1l around £80-120 with the higher end being more exotic stuff for casting etc ~ $110.
Direct quote from FAQ "Q - Do I have to use proprietary resins or can I use other resins? Why?
A - OLO printers work only with OLO resins. This is because we want to make sure you experience the highest quality prints using safe and tested materials."
They have been very blunt in other other questions with straight forward yes and no's. I reckon it they would work. If direct sunlight is enough to cure most resins hence the black bottles and store away from sunlight warning, I see no reason why this should be an issue.
I have got the pack of two. If I like them I'll keep one at home and one at uni if not I'll keep one sell another if I cant sell it I'll turn it into a 3rd year project somehow!

Most sla resins are uv cured. You're not going to get a lot of uv off a phone or tablet screen. None off an oled screen.dcfc_sandy wrote:Reading through their FAQ they say that they specially created their resin for this printer, at $15 per 100ml I'd say its a little bit pricey, as see them for 1l around £80-120 with the higher end being more exotic stuff for casting etc ~ $110.

Never do anything you don't want to have to explain to the paramedics.

Foiled!
Thanks Barry. I've done very little in the way of reading about SLA. Something I plan on doing in the next few days/weeks.

hmm they mention Galaxy A7 which has a oled screen.
One of the comments "In the next few days we will be publishing a comparison between our daylight resin and other common UV resins already on the market."

Re: Olo SLA Kickstarter
Having started the research there are a few printers that use daylight resins already, and the resin is widely available.
The biggest kicker appears to be that they are incredibly UV sensitive to the point they will cure almost immediately in direct sunlight, this for me is a kicker as most SLA printer designs I've seen using daylight resin (Olo include) have a completely closed body that allows 0 light in, thus no way to monitor a print. So a print may fail on the first layer and you wouldn't know until it's finished hours later.
