Repetier 0.92.9 Printing Problems

So I am running the stock rambo and looked at other threads which included the Config.h as well as the SeeMeCNC one as per the manual whilst tackling the online tool to get everything set up. Had a few cockups with the fan and heater arrangement and motor currents and endstops but that all works. For all purposes the setup works and I am able to print without failure.

I do however have two issues, the first far more annoying than the latter. First is to do with retraction, since the firmware update my printer now pauses for 1-2 seconds before retracting and then moving. This causes a nozzle shaped blob to appear before every single retract which lead to ugly rounded instead of sharp edges and all the obvious other retraction joys of using PLA.

The second is the SD card, I've checked the pin assignment is correct and SD card support is enabled. When I insert/remove the SD card the LCD tells me 'SD card inserted/removed' and I am able to access the SD card menu on the LCD, however there are no files. I am using the exact same SD cards previously used and working before the upgrade and have tried using ExFat, FAT and FAT32 storage systems to no luck.

Ideas anyone?
