Rotary encoder doesn't... rotary encode.

Post by RandomFactor »

Just finished assembly, (build pics soon) and the firmware is all installed, everything is happy... except when I turn the rotary encoder it homes all three towers and resets (as in rambo board restarts). If I push the rotary encoder I see the menu items as expected. Doesn't matter if I am at the main display or the menu, rotating the knob restarts the printer.

I have the red display board.

It's most likely a wiring issue, the encoder provides momentary contact as you turn it, you are most likely shorting something out as it turns.

I'd make sure you don't have the "B" cable reversed. :)

geneb for the win.
I had the B cable swapped end for end. It's keyed, but the the ribbon goes through different at each end. Turned it around and poof, it works. As you can see in this image (only pin-out I could find) the rotary encoder and reset pins are opposite from each other so doing what I did makes the rotary encoder into a reset switch.
