Layer shifting

Post by noventix »

Hey all

I have recently upgraded my Max V2, and have been trying to get it calibrated properly. Feels like I am getting there, but have run into a layer shift problem that I can't resolve. I think it may be the belt tension, but can't quite figure this one out. Hoping the experts can weigh in.

I can print a cube, and it turns out perfect. I have been trying to print this new part (quadcopter battery stop), since it small but more complicated. Have managed to minimize stringing through retract settings, but am experiencing shifting - very noticeable where layers move from totally solid to those with holes, and vice-versa. Photo attached.

I wouldn't call that a layer shift. It looks like you're underextruding on small-cross-section areas (or overextruding the rest of the time).

The v6 typically likes short, slow retraction (my usual setting is 2mm at 10mm/s). It's a little counterintuitive, but I got dramatically less-stringy prints and more consistent results with slower retraction. YMMV. I'm not familiar with S3D...Does it have a setting for differential settings for retract and unretract and are you using them?

Thanks IM. S3D does have those settings, and I made the adjustments. It helped, but it was still shifting. The image doesn't really show it well, but there was a definite shift.

Alas, it turns out that it was a mechanical issue. One of my Trick Trucks was too tight. After adjusting all of them and checking belt tension again, the printer seems to be working great again.
