Another printing question (starting with no oozing into print)
Another printing question (starting with no oozing into print)
I feel like I have had a lot of questions recently, but my print quality is improving. One question I have is for those of you who start a print remotely, how do you handle the ooze coming out as the nozzle heats up. I have tried moving to the front of the print bed and doing a wipe but it seems to drag some filament with it to the print. if I don't do the wipe and just print it will have all of the filament in the print. I have used Cartesian printers that will extrude some filament and wipe it off the end of the print bed, but I don't know if the nozzle can reach that far. Thanks in advance for any help!

I normally set my slicing program to print a brim around my print, it takes care of the majority of the ooze, and also helps purge the hotend.

How far away from the part do you have the brim?

Normally, 5 outlines, about 2mm from the part. If I want a little more adhesion, I'll set the offset to zero.

That won't really help what he is describing though... I usually don't print remotely, but I do notice the 5cm ooze that happens when you first start printing.. Maybe a brim much further away... But at 2mm it will just fall in toward the part, most likely...
Maybe if you add some retraction at the end of each print, and a priming brim before each print you could reduce the oozing...

Just put more distance between the part and the skirt. There's no reason that you can't do 2 or 3 outlines that are 20-30mm away from your part. It would only be an issue if your printed part was huge and made the skirt go out of the bounds, otherwise, it doesn't hurt anything to go wide.
