First: I have an Orion with the new cheapskates and arms. I'm running the latest firmware (with the correct adjustments for the new parts) and have properly calibrated the extruder, PID, bed level, etc.
I've got a problem. It's not exactly random, but it is very close to being random. During a print everything will be running along just fine, then suddenly one of the axis motors will either lock up, or actively run in reverse. This happens somewhere around 1cm of build height (+/- 1mm or so), and effects just one tower randomly. Sometimes it's the Z, sometimes the Y, yet other times just the Y. One and only one tower will go off on a little journey all by it's self for a half second or so, then go back to playing well with the others. I've killed it each time this has happened, so I don't know if the "hiccup" will repeat at 2cm, or other multiple in build height.
I've sliced files using multiple slicers (Cura, Slic3r, Mattercontrol) and regardless this is happening. I've tried printing off the SD card, and over USB. Same behavior.
Before I go too far into tearing things apart I want to ask you all if this might be something someone else has encountered, and if so, what did you do to fix it??
Thanks!
Robert
Odd jumping mid print
Re: Odd jumping mid print
Is your rambo board cool? fans running? Take the side panels off and try again
Re: Odd jumping mid print
I took the side panels off and made sure the interior isn't getting hot. Which it wasn't. I tried a different model and noticed that the non-printing moves were making some odd squealing noises. The speed for those is 300 mm/s which is the default in the firmware. I'm wondering if that might be part of the problem.
The part I was trying to print that is having the problems is a fan shroud that has a lot of small moves in it. So a ton of retractions and non printing moves. I've printed similar things before with no problem, but not quite this many. If you want when I get home I can upload that GCODE so you can look at it and see if there is something odd about it...

Re: Odd jumping mid print
Try dialing back your rapid moves to 275 or so.
