Peek fan & layer fan questions

Post by moody »

I haven't yet installed the peek or layer fans because my prints have been coming out just fine without them and I have not had any trouble regulating the temperature so far but I have not yet done a print that took more than 5 hrs.

I'm wondering if I should just install the Peek fan and forget about the layer fan for now because I see the advantage to having the stock plastic Peek section kept cool on long ABS prints, but I really don't see any reason to use a layer fan, unless your printing in PLA wichh I don't really do...

Can someone please give me some direction as to when I should be using either/or both of the add-on fans?

PS. Does the layer fan help the first few layers to stick better to the bed because I'm having a little trouble on prints that are circular popping off after the inth layer when the print is 75% done and around 4-5mm in height.

Thanks!

Install the PEEK fan right away. Some ABS's can push up towards the upper end of what PEEK and PTFE likes temperature wise (I have had a few ABS rolls that wanted 235~), and the hotend is designed to have active cooling on that portion.

The layer fan if you're printing ABS you mostly don't need. I also mostly print ABS, and the number of occasions where a layer fan was wanted I can count on one hand. Something like the Berd Air, on the other hand could make a big difference in bridging, and having 3 layer fans at very low throttle is better than 1 layer fan moving more total air. But it definetly doesn't help with bed adhesion

For that, I would lean towards PEI, a heat spreader, or a heated chamber (I have and enjoy the benefits of all three)
