HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
So I've installed the HE280 hotend on my Max V2 following the upgrade instructions here: http://seemecnc.dozuki.com/Guide/Rostoc ... Upgrade/49
I've cleared the EEPROM and installed the latest firmware per the instructions here (Configuration.h set to motherboard = 301 and printer = 2 (max v2). http://seemecnc.dozuki.com/Guide/Step+5 ... irmware/50
I loaded the Probing Gcode from matter control and ran it (per instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jZLMeR ... e=youtu.be ) , and the auto calibration begins. Two taps at each tower, then it homes, then it comes back down above the platform and.... nothing. It just sat there. The LCD is now showing the firmware screen over and over, and I can't get it to respond to anything now. I've tried clearing EEPROM again and reinstalling firmware - nothing. It just says:
SeeMeCNC
Rostock Max
FW Date 090816
Repetier v 0.92.2
Any idea what went wrong and how I can fix this? Thanks! - Jeff

Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
You might have accidentally flipped one of the cables on the LCD - sounds nuts, but I seem to recall seeing the "constant reset" issue before and that was the culprit. It could also be that the LCD interface board to the RAMBo is either loose or possibly off by one pin.

Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
When I first powered on the printer, before updating the firmware, the LCD menu was working normally - I could access all menu functions as usual. After flashing the new firmware, again the LCD was working normally - I could access al menu options. Also I have them labelled A and B and a quick check just now confirmed they are right. So I don't think it is flipped LCD cable. Everything seemed fine until partway through the first time running the calibration gcode. Thanks! - Jeff

Just for grins, disconnect the LCD adapter from the RAMBo (at the RAMBo) and re-run the calibration script.

Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
SOLVED: Well, it was a stupid mistake. The 8 pin connector to the hotend came loose during the first run. As soon as I pushed it back in, everything was working again. I've pulled a little more slack through and it should be fine now. Thanks for your help!

Ahh, good to know.
I'm glad you got it sorted. How's it printing?

Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
Well maybe not so solved. Now what I'm seeing is that the calibration run will halt at random points in the process. Originally, it was obvious the 8pin plug was loose, but now that I've given it more slack, it appears to be fully seated but it still stops randomly. I noticed when I assembled the HE280 hotend, I did manage to pinch the PTFE tubing for the thermistor between the bottom heatsink fin on the hotend and the plastic housing piece (basically what the instructions say NOT to do). The PTFE looked a little pinched, but not broken, so I moved it out of the way and continued with the build. If the two thermistor leads were somehow shorting at that point, would that possibly cause the issue I'm seeing? If so I'll take it apart and put some new PTFE on the leads.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
I don't think it would. It may be picking up noise from other wires. I'd recommend emailing support about it.

Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
When it halts now, is it doing two taps, then just stopping immediately after? That will happen if the taps register far enough apart, and it'll throw an error. The error is enough to disconnect octoprint, so it can seem like things really froze, but it's just the two taps were > 0.1mm off of each other. That's usually caused by filament on the nozzle or build plate, and is especially a problem if you're trying to calibrate while the hotend is at printing temps.
Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
So I failed to mention that I was seeing this halting when running the calibration from the printer menu itself. I just tried it from Matter Control again (as stated in the original post) and it completed successfully. I'm not sure if the gcode generated by the printer menu option is different from what I can run from matter control. I assume it is at least a little different since the printer based version also enables heating. I'll also just add for the record that I have not yet printed anything with this hotend so there is no residual filament to worry about, and the glass was cleaned with alcohol before starting. Also I am running this calibration at temp. I suppose since I got though it successfully it is time for a test print. Thanks for the help!
Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
I honestly have no idea what the calibration from the front panel (other than selecting a gcode file to run) will do... I suspect it's a hold-over from Repetier's cartesian z probe routine and isn't compatible with the "tap" method.

Re: HE280 on Max V2 - Probing stops halfway through, board unresposive
I have the same issue with 8 pin connector easily gets loose on the HE280 hotend. So I temporarily fixed it with tape but I am looking for something is permanently fixed. I did find the post that is related to this issue and someone did design a clip to secure the connector in place but I can't seem find it.
any good & quick solution to this issue?
