Hello from Cincinnati Ohio

Post by Jshel2000 »

I live in cincinnati ohio and recently got into 3D printing. What got me into it was the fact that my highschool (I'm a sophomore) has 5 makerbot replicator 5th generation printers and 1 replicator 2

They suck. They fail once every 3 prints if you are lucky. Their 'smart' extruder is so unreliable that we have a cart full of them for the inevitable moment that they fail.

I ended up deciding I would help my school out and research printers, and decided having our electronics and robotics clubs work together and build rostock v3's for the school.

Plus there are at least 100 kids using those 5 printers (the replicator 2 is so unreliable there is no point in using it) so I thought it would be nice to have my own printer, to help the robotics team that I'm on, which competes with other schools. I would get a job, save some money, buy a rostock, and get a freind to help me build it.

In my free time, I play video games such as Forza motorsport, destiny, overwatch, and fallout 4, I design race car internal combustion engines, aerodynamics, suspension, steering, traction, and power, I design 3D printers that are usually delta styled and I make these prototypes out of legos, I work on robots for my schools robotics team, and I play the guitar.

I want to got to college for engineering. I would probably major in mechanical, electrical, computer, industrial, engineering or some type of material science/engineering.

Welcome to the Forum Jshel2000. The Rostock Max V3 is an excellent match for your school, in fact many schools are using the V2 and V3.
You can ask questions on this Forum and someone will help you, later on you can help others on the Forum as you gain experience.
I wish you the very best on your college experience, it is virtually a must in today's job market.

Welcome to the forums, and hello from only a state away. I'm going to suggest something to you college wise. Don't go straight to engineering school. Find a nice community college with an industrial technology, Mechatronics, or electromechanics program. That way you can get some hands on experience, with both the technology and the math, before you get into higher pressure academic environments, and if you get lucky, you can find someone willing to pay you to work and go to school (including potentially that engineering school), and you can work on getting some prerequisites and general education credits at a lower cost and smaller class sizes, which are better for you.

Welcome. I too am new... but you should know the 3D companies that are located in Cincinnati. It may interest you.

Simplify 3D is a popular paid-option slicer out of Blue Ash.
Polar 3D is a polar based printer that targets the educational market. They provide hardware and curriculum.
GeckoTek is a build plate manufacturer that specializes in metal build plates that have a permanent coating that makes them easy to print on (good adhesion and when you flex the build plate, the piece pops right off)

Hello fellow Ohioan and gamer! If you are into PC Gaming you should come to the next LanOC http://lanoc.org/lan-parties/dates. It's a good sized LAN that is not too far from you. The SeeMeCNC guys came to the last LAN and had a few Eris printers and a Rostock v3 setup (they even gave away two Eris's in the raffle!). This is actually the reason I purchased a Rostock v3 after seeing it in action :)

It appears that you may be a console gamer by your game selection (mainly destiny). If so, then you should come join the PC Master Race!!! We have all the delicious cookies.
