I have a RostockMAx V1, with updated V2 arms. I am now using MatterControl to control the printer and as the slicer. For the most part I like it better then Slicer.
It has been printing nearly flawlessly (it is 2 1/2 yrs old). But, just recently I have had quality issues that I haven't been able to figure out what the cause is. I have attached a photo. [See Below] The part is a simple channel ring. The wall thickness is about 1.5mm I am showing this just as example, it has similar fails on other parts also. I have printed many of these in the past, same file, same settings, no problem. But, recently there is this GAP.
The walls are cylinder - so the printer prints rings to form the walls. Where it starts and stops it is not 'connecting' and leaves a gap.
I have tried replacing the nozzle, that didn't work. It doesn't seem to be the arms, I don't see any abnormal play when the head moves. I have tried slowing the print, that didn't help (but it has always printed at the same speed, no issue before). I played with head temps, nothing seems to change.
Like I said, I have printed many of these without issue before, I don't see anything I've changed. I am now using MatterControl and I don't see a setting that was there in Slicer. In Slicer there was an option to Start Perimeters at Random locations, rather than at the same location each layer. If there is a similar command in MatterControl I haven't found it. BUT, that would only be a band-aid fix, because it wouldn't be addressing what is causing this, since it never had this problem before.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: Perimeter-Gap
I would look at your retraction settings.
Re: Perimeter-Gap
Just for grins, print one sliced in Slic3r and see how it comes out.

Re: Perimeter-Gap
The retraction is 2.5mm, same as it always has been.
About printing with Slicer I've never been able to get Slicer to print right with MatterControl. It puts the object center way off the bed, so only a portion of the object tries to print. The preview shows it centered. I try edit and Arrange, and manually try to move it, i've even tried setting the center to 0 0 (instead of 140, 140) - but nothing changes, it always tries to print in the same - off the bed - location. As If it is totally ignoring the settings in MatterControl.
The only way I can print with Slicer is to go back to Repetier, but, i have been using the 13 point leveling in mattercontrol, so now repetier is all off. I'ld have to recalibrate the whole thing for Repetier and then redo it back when i go back to MatterControl. I don't want to do that. It would be nice if i could get Slicer to work with MatterControl.
Anyone know what the issue is with it being way off center?
But, that is a different issue.

Re: Perimeter-Gap
Some versions back, as I recall for the 1.2 branch, Slic3r changed the way they defined the bed shape and MatterControl still hasn't fixed their integration with the current version. You can use Slic3r standalone and then load the output gcode into MC or you can craft a G92 command in the start gcode to take the offset out.
Re: Perimeter-Gap
I'm sorry, I wasn't clear. *install* Slic3r from here: http://www.slic3r.org, slice the model, save it as gcode and either print via SD card or load the gcode into MC and print from there.
