Ok, we had our fun in my original thread: mhackney's Rostock Max V3 thread. I'm starting this new thread for the serious work!

My new V3 kit is locked and loaded. The kit shipped today and is scheduled to arrive on Thursday. In preparation, I've configured my Raspberry Pi V3 with OctoPrint so it is ready to go. For Windows users, there is a very good video available. For Mac and Linux users I've followed along with that video and created a blog post that shows how to setup on OS X and Linux.

Hopefully the pi3 works better than the pi2 as an octoprint server.

Yeah, it was not good on a pi1 back when I first tried it. We shall see.

I've been using a Pi 3 running Octoprint for a few months and it's been great for control, scheduling and monitoring, video streaming, and creating of time-lapses. What problems did you have with the Pi2? Were you trying to use it for slicing?

I pre-slice everything in Simplify3D and just send gcode to the Pi3.

Can you do it sls from smart phone when you are away from the printer? At least monitoring and streaming?

I preslice everything on my desktop with either mattercontrol, or simplify in repetier. I've had it reboot to even stopping the print in the middle with the hot end still turned on. Running octoprint on an old dell laptop with debian installed and have had no issues.

That's mainly what I use if for. I've even pinholed a port on my firewall so I can watch it from out of the house, or my dad can watch.

I was fly fishing with my daughter's boy friend all day yesterday. It was a great day actually but we didn't get home until later. Today I need to figure out if my car is finished and how to pick it up in Ct so I can make it to the Maker Faire this weekend. Then I have to be in Rochester, NY M-Th next week. I am seriously thinking about bringing the kit and tools so I can do the build in my hotel room!

I say this with all the parts for the HE280 played out before me ready to assemble!

Step 8 on assembling the HE280 requires two 2 position terminal plugs. Which bag are these in? I don's see them looking through the sacks without opening them. They are not in #84490 or #71290.

They might be living in the RAMBo box.

Ok, I'l check there. It's not like I don't have extras laying around, just want to see if there are places for some feedback and/or to help others.

Yup, that's where they were. I edited the first step in the doc to state that.

Ok, completed assembly of the hot end. Total time about 1hr 30minutes. I really like how nicely designed and integrated the hot end/effector/wiring/accelerometer are. Very nice, sophisticated and evolved design. I'm really looking forward to putting it through its paces. The thermal fuse is a brilliant idea and should be standard on all hot ends!

I added a tool list to the Dozuki docs so hopefully that edit will be approved. I also edited the step I mentioned above so folks know where to find the two connectors (RAMBo box).

The base assembly complete. Slightly under 2 hrs.

I didn't realize the onyx/glass float like that. Seems like a huge improvement over the screwed down v2. Is it only one screw going through the blue locking paddle that holds those plastic tabs against the base plate?

If so, hope we can purchase those in the future. I'd gladly cut a giant hole in my v2 base.

Yes, 1 screw. I still think this is over constrained. 3 is all it takes to define a plane with no possibility of warpage. But I'm going by the book so I'll see how it performs when done. I'm just overly sensitive to overconstrained systems!

Well, the bad news is I'm not going to make it to Maker Faire tomorrow because my car is still in Ct and not quite done yet. New clutch, new slave cylinder. PIA.

The good news is, I'll have time to probably finish the V3 tomorrow.

I like the way they did the mounting for the heat bed, now I see what Gene meant about the thickness of the aluminum heat spreader.
