Calibration Cube Feedback

Post by 3DR »

Ok so I bought my Max v2 back in March 2014, took me about a month to build and I was happy to say it worked first time without any issues. I printed the fan shroud but thats where my progress stopped as spring arrived so my attention quickly turned to being outdoors :) For one reason and another its taken me this long to get back into using the printer, yesterday I fitted the peek fan shroud which works fine and today I've downloaded this hollow cube calibration test:-

I would be grateful of some feedback from someone with more experience of the Max v2 as to whether they think the print quality is good or bad. I should say I installed a cartridge heater instead of the 2 resistors in the stock hotend.

for some reason 1 side of the cube hasn't printed so good as the others??

Top to bottom its 20.15mm

and across its sides its 19.81mm

My guess is I need to apply a slight scaling to allow for the shrinkage of the abs as per the manual indicates. Comparing the picture of my cube against the pictures on Thingiverse mine doesn't look bad at all :)

Is the shrinkage in X-Y (Across the sides as you said) consistent in both directions? If so, the arm length probably needs a slight adjustment. If so, (Observed size / Specified size) * Current arm length setting = New arm length

Yes it is, I've measured it again and its saying 19.8 across both sides, so am I right in saying its (19.8/20) x 269 where 269 is my current 'Diagonal rod length (mm)' eeprom setting? if so that comes out at 266.31, does that sound right?

Sounds pretty reasonable. Another thing may be to print a larger part, and a variety of sizes to confirm the scaling factor is consistent, as a component of it is likely the track width the nozzle leaves, which is better adjusted in the slicer.

Thanks! I'll try that if I can get my printer working again http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=77&t=11069 :(

Question about this.

So you recalibrate the arm lengths to get the cube the right dimensions do you then have to recalibrate the printer? IE do I need to run G29 again?
