First print. Looking good!!!

How difficult was it to JB weld the Balls to the cap screws?
Not hard at all. If the ball is sitting on the rod end with the magnet inside, the magnetism holds the cap screw to the ball. I kind of twisted the cap screws upside down into the JB weld to pick up just enough JB Weld on the top.

I had to carefully use small needle nose pliers on the side of the top part of the cap screw below the ball when installing the cap screw/ball combination, because it still takes a fair amount of force to screw it in, even though I ran a longer 3mm screw through first a few times to get the thread going. On the other hand, if I had a piece of latex rubber between my fingers and the ball, that might have allowed me to apply more force so that I wouldn't have needed the needle nose pliers.

Thank you.

This invention not only improves print quality dramatically, but it also elongates the life of the Rambo board due to it's smooth, minimal friction, movement. Motors don't get so hot cause they are working against so much less friction. Well worth the upgrade and cheap to acquire too.

Really? Did your U-joints really have that much friction? Did you actually measure your motor temperature before and after? I find it hard to believe that the reduction in friction is quantifiable via motor temps.

What you think? You have more experience than me on this 3D printing. I trust your judgement.

I would be interested in an aluminum version of the effector that I can attach the balls to instead of using ABS. Due to the fact that I will most likely be printing at high temps. Could you provide me with an aluminum effector for this magnetic system? I would pay you for it.

Not quite perfect, but a big improvement. Click to zoom in. The rough part on the stock arms side I believe was where the loop starts after a retraction and move. Kisslicer staggers the start point on each layer. The other side of the Vica sculpture looks great on both prints.

EDIT:I've replaced the photo because on further inspection, the issue with the rough part on the stock arms print may have been retraction-related rather than an arm issue. The quality of the print is much improved with the magnetic arms, and this updated photo is a better comparison of print quality. Notice the better layer alignment on the magnetic arms version, which was actually printed faster.

That is a noticeable difference. Did you see the one I printed with stock arms, came out close to yours with the stock arms. I can't wait for my CF tubes to arrive.

I noticed after the print that one of my cheapskates was a little loose. That could account for the few imperfections that are left in the print with the magnetic arms. I won't have access to my printer until tomorrow, and I'll try another print then.

Check those cams, make sure they are tight. I had the same problems cause I forgot to tighten down the Cams. Once tight cheapskates were firm, no wiggle.

Here are some pics of my new quick change extruder setup...

I'm using a 5.2:1 geared nema 17. I am set to 60mm/s retracts and the Rambo current is set at 115. I think I can go even faster on the retracts. To change the filament you just push the two long springed screws down and pull the bearing piece forward. It is super quiet! These are the extruders I use on all my other printers like the Behemoth. A little pricey though as the stepper and gear are about $50 to $60. For me it is well worth the price. I have hundreds of hours of use on these and they just keep on going and going.

In the pics you can see I put the hole in the wrong spot for the bowden tube on the laser cut piece. Doh!

The files are up on my github https://github.com/xnaron/Xnaron-Magnarms-for-Rostock

Here is a vica I sliced with KISS at .25mm layer height in Vase fill with one loop. I am getting ever so slight stringies because I have the temp a touch low. This is with the cheap reprapper.com silver PLA. It doesn't print anywhere as nice as the ultimachine silver does.

Checkout the layer alignment! These delta's are amazing!

Can you share your source for the stepper?

Thanks for sharing your amazing upgrades!!

I'm using an E3d all metal hot end with a .4mm nozzle
