Hey Gene,

The draft of the 2nd edition assembly manual you kindly offer me conflicts with the below (or above as it may be). Below it says the wiring pattern for new steppers is 1-red 2-green 3 yellow 4 blue, and in the draft it says yellow blue red green. John Oly just emailed me and says it's red green yellow black(where I think he meant blue instead of black).

Clarification?

Thanks,

Rob

Rob, the draft shows both old and new color patterns. I'll email him and find out for sure what's going on.

Hey Gene,

So I figured out who's information was correct for the new yellow wired stepper motors on my own:

John Oly's configuration from an email today for pins 1,2,3,4:

RED GREEN YELLOW BLUE: wiring it this way results in INVERTED xyz stepper motion

YOUR way from your 2nd edition draft:

YELLOW BLUE RED GREEN: results in correct xyz motion (when sending manual control G-code "G28" through Repetier Host)

So, I thank you and reiterate my frustration with getting inaccurate info straight from SeeMeCNC!! I have wasted HOURS and HOURS re-doing things because of being misinformed by their answers to direct email! I hope to have a better experience moving forward.

Cheers Gene!

Rob

Well to be fair, three value changes make me wrong and them right. :)

If you do a G28 (put your hand on the power switch so you can shut it off!) and it heads for the bed, shut it off, and change the three INVERT_?_DIR values from what they are, to their opposite (if they're all true, make them all false and vise-versa)

When I first brought up Orange Menace, G28 sent the head to the bed, so I had to flip the settings I mention above, BUT I was using my original stepper motors. I'll make sure to put a note about this when I start working on the calibration section of the manual in the next few days.

I'm glad things are working for you now!

As I was building my first Rostock V2 unit, I took notes of the things that I either messed up on, or wanted more clarity on. With that, I humbly submit my notes and possible edits for your consideration. I was using the v1.4 version for my build.

If I can also suggest getting with your own builder for his methods to be included. Guanu seems to build a lot of these and has his own methods which would be welcome in the manual.

He's not "my" builder. :) What "methods" of his do you feel need to be included?
(my responses are numbered sequentially in the order in which the points appear in your doc)
1. Figs. 4-24 and 4-25 are very clear.
2. fixed to "sheet metal"
3. Why would I show the "normal" orientation when I'm trying to ensure you build the "mirrored" one?
4. The orientation of the T-Nuts is pretty obvious.
5. This makes no sense to me at all. WHAT orientation? Fig. 4-35 is about the T-Nuts, nothing else.
6. Fig. 6-4 shows the 26ga wire in a little baggie.
7. replaced "Philips" with "Sheet Metal"
8. replaced "Philips" with "Sheet Metal"
9. You didn't notice the 26ga wires in Fig. 13-3? :) (More to the point - it makes no sense to only run some of the wires through the loom and IMO shouldn't need to be explicitly stated.)
10. Highlighted the notch.
11. added "Sheet Metal"
12. "Insert each of the three end-stop connectors into the sockets shown below, OUTLINED IN GREEN."
13. Fig. 23-10 is fixed.

Thanks for the suggestions. The figure corrections caused me to figure out how to edit images from within LibreOffice. This makes tweaking images a lot less painful than how I used to do it. :)

How about starting a new manual for installing the new kit, Upgrading the V1 to V2. If you write the manual maybe they will release the kit. ;)
