I think SeeMeCNC should consider including them in the kit, or a rubber or urethane foam anti-vibe gasket/spacer. This is open-source, after all. It's a tiny incremental cost. For a grand, I think they could squee it in there, considering the benefits of the end-user experience.

WoW! Those builttospecstore gaskets are $2 for a set of 3 plus postage! I don't know how well the foam would work but that's a good price, thanks for the link.
You're good at finding that type of thing.
Does anyone have any experience on using foam gaskets on the motors?
Update: The foam gaskets at http://builttospecstore.storenvy.com/pr ... ket-3-pack has free shipping! I guess I will be the first
to let everyone know how well they work because I just purchased a few sets. (sorry Gene but the price was too good to pass up) If they don't work very well then
I will be hitting up geneb to get the cork.

Not a problem at all. I picked the price I did (I'll do 4 for $10) simply because that pushes it past the "hassle" line. BtS is a going concern, while I'm just a flight sim geek that's been temporarily distracted by 3D printing. :)

I had no idea it was possible for anything with steppers to be this quiet. After hearing stepper whine for 10 hours straight, I get a little sick of it. Definitely going to do this mod.

Here's the direct link to the example of printing with the specifically design dampers for stepper motors from slosyn. I scavenged mine from old recycled scanners/photocopiers/misc equipment that made use of stepper motors for precision operations. They are not that hard to find if you like to take things apart.

Here is an example of before while pushing the machine for speed.

Did the upgrade today with 3/32" (2.4mm) cork sheet from Michael's (craft supplies) for $3.49... Awesome! Now the Fan on my 24V Onyx power supply is way too loud!

I just did this upgrade with a sheet of 6.18mm thick cork I found. It didn't reduce the sound as much as I thought it would, but it did cut off the higher frequencies like a low pass filter. I don't know if it was worth it because it took about 4 hours to install the cork on all four stepper motors, and now I can hear the extruder gears squeak even more.

I had a similar problem with Steve's extruder (pre-EZStruder) after adding the gaskets.

Some ways to fix it are to turn down the retract speed and add grease/lubricant.

My mechanic gave me a little of the red stuff, not sure what it's made of, but it works. I think it's for packing bearings.
