If fishing line had never been discovered as an alternate method of power transmission, I would think GT2 timing belts were where it's at. However, we know from thousands of printers out in the field that fishing line is the better choice for two reasons: cost (it's exponentially cheaper) and parasitic inertia (it weighs less.) The drawback is R&D. After that hurdle, what's left to do is spend less money and have your steppers do less work to achieve the same result. What's not to like?

I tried making a few parts to do this conversion, but my CAD skills are seriously lacking. If I could figure out how to make something like polygonhell has in that video I posted earlier then this would be really easy with our printer, given that it has the spots to put the extra pulley.

I have to wonder if the bearing flange (thing:91510) would work on the Rostock Max idler because there is very little space between the bearing and idler sides.
Has anyone tried this on the Rostock Max?

If your sharp pulleys are chewing your belts, I bet SMC would send you new pulleys at no cost - just email them.
