Now set the Onyx & mount down so the screw will go through the #1 mounting hole as shown
below.
Tighten the screw a small amount. A half or three-quarter turn should do it. We just want it to
grab enough threads to keep it from popping out while we line up the other five screws.
Make sure that the Onyx and its mounting plate holes are roughly aligned with the mounting
holes in the top of the base. Slide a nylon spacer under the mounting plate so that it aligns with both
the Onyx and mounting plate holes. Insert a #4-40 flat head screw and tighten it only a turn or two.
You want to leave the screws loose until you've got all six installed.
<--end paste-->
The first paragraph is superfluous and causes confusion for the 2nd paragraph.
I'd also like to toss in my 2cents on the premade peek fan shroud bit.
I agree that it should be included. I did not intend to purchase ABS until after I read the manual and was surprised to learn that this should not be made in PLA.
The layer fan can then become the first test print. And it can be made in any filament the user has.

Cheers,

Good catch Kitecraft - I suspect that's left over text from the prior edition.
This is NOT going to devolve into a discussion about what is or is not included in the kit! If you want something included in the kit that's not there EMAIL SEEMECNC DIRECTLY. I do NOT want to see it in this thread! I created this thread to get feedback on the 2nd edition of the manual - I want to make it as good as I possibly can.
Let me be perfectly clear - if I see a post in this thread that attempts to continue the discussion about what is or is not included, it will be deleted. If the post has information relating to the manual AND a whinge about stuff that should be included, the post will be edited to remove the noise.

Just uploaded the newest update. 11 chapters are complete and include 15 checkpoint videos. 418 new photos have been taken so far. (The source document is over 180MB at this point.)
Yell if you spot something!

Gene,
Loving the new manual, great job. Just need someone to send me one so I can build another step by step using the new manual.
Couple of things:
-I'm see a lot of blank pages or pages that have only a couple lines of text. It's probably just a Word formatting thing.
- Should the vibration mounts be mentioned at the installation step of the stepper motors? Could save people some time in the future and keep them from having to take it apart later. I'm currently doing that now.

The blank pages come and go as I work my way through the original document. I'm actually using Libre Office Write for this.
I'm not including ANY optional things at all during the build. Many builders' inability to understand the word "optional" has driven the support staff at SeeMeCNC straight up the wall.
My plan is to dedicate an entire chapter to doing nothing but various hacks & mods to the machine. First on that list will be the Astrosyn dampers. I've got a package of them on my desk right now. I'll be including things like making a quick-change hot end mount (and the crimping connectors they require), light rings, different hot ends, etc. I want to cover upgrading with the TL arms for the v2, but I don't have the money for that.
Remember kids, if you post about what should or shouldn't be included in the kit IN THIS THREAD, you're gonna have a bad time.

I'm getting a set of TL arms on Monday, I could take pictures of the install process if you like Gene.

I too will be getting TL arms and LED ring on Tuesday, but I have an upgraded platform. I'm also getting the Yellow Jacket Hotend Mount. It's going to be Pimpin. I'm going to have to make an new platform for all this stuff.

Perhaps a separate upgrade manual? Keep the page count down on the original build manual and it might drive home the point that upgrades are not part of the original build you get in the kit. Keep it up, the new manual is looking great.

Could you write it up with Libre Office Writer for me? I'm thinking BONE has it with the whole separate document for the upgrades & hacks.
tnx.

\Whenever I open the link, I get:
"Version 2.20, November 2nd, 2014"
Not the Nov. 5th version.

I uploaded the 09Nov14 version about 45 minutes ago. Chapter 17 is 90% done. I ran out of gas or I would've gotten the rest of it done.

Hey Nylocke,
If you have anything started on that TL arm manual, send it my way. Mine are coming in tomorrow, and I should be getting on it later this week. I have a few other upgrades I'm doing also, so I'll have to make sure to take plenty of photos.

I do have some advice I'll put in the manual. I have 60 pictures I've taken for it, and a good idea of what to do to ease install. Keep in mind it may take 2-3 hours to install the arms, lock nuts take a long time to screw on...

I'm using the Monolithic Platform Design, so I wont need the nuts in the middle. But I will need to thread the rod through the holes some how. I have the original platform, so I take some pics with that. But everything will be an upgrade on an upgrade on an upgrade on an upgrade. It's all new stuff from the cheapskates to the bowden tube. Then the stepper dampeners also.

You may have issues with that platform. The TL rods are 3mm threaded, and they slide right through the regular platform clamps. You probably will have to print a new one with either smaller holes or 2 spots to screw in the truss head screws to tighten against the axles. I think your platform will have too much slop in the axle mounts.

I hope its alright that I'm copying the format for the Assembly Guide. Trying to make it homogenous and easy to digest.

I'm planning on printing another anyway. The hole size is going to be printed at the thread root diameter and thread them all the way through. I remodeled the entire thing and currently working on the newest version. I might add a hole for a set screw, just be safe.
I'll have to start a github soon for this stuff and include the manuals for my upgrades. That way the upgrade manual could link to anyone else's manual for ideas and other upgrades that were done by other people.

That's what I would do.

You will want that set screw. The lock nuts are a pain to get threaded if the rod has room to rotate

You got a point there. We should of been talking about this else where. Back to talk about the manual and done hi-jacking this thread.

I'm currently uploading the latest rev. It finishes Chapter 17, which completes the full mechanical and electrical assembly. The only bits left to revise deal with software.

I'm on the Visual BOM right now for the TL arm manual. I'll probably get to the installation by tonight.

Until I get it done I'll have the most recent version here
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/330 ... sGuide.pdf
I have up to installing the axles on the cheap skates and effector. If someone can help me figure out the issue with the page numbering, for some reason at page 9 and 11 it resets to page 0.
