The screw-on thermistor is great (sold by RP One Labs), I'm using them but it's not really necessary.
Just use kapton tape instead of the silicone.
I came up with a different solution, using the stock resistors that works amazingly well. I wrapped the resistor body carefully with copper foil until it fit snugly into the holes and friction fit in place, being careful to trim the foil so none of it touched the resistor leads. Once installed in the hot end, I applied a bit of J-B Weld epoxy into each end to secure everything permanently in place, and make it look all pretty. I've been really happy with the results.
