I have the same issue. My machine is about the same age as yours and I have been scratching my head trying to figure out how to make it happen. I like the idea of using the extra side plate. Thanks for the tip.

I designed a printable side panel replacement and inside edge bracket to hold a pair of DPS-1200FB 12V 75A server supplies that I am running my upgraded rostock max with! More power than the machine should ever need at 900W each, but they are reliable, cheap, easy to come by, and they exhaust their hot air directly out the side of the bottom enclosure which helps keep things cool. Running two in series gives me a 12v rail for lights and fans, and a 24V rail for everything else. Paired with a DuetWiFi, a 12V to 5V stepdown, and a 2 channel relay board I can leave them running in shutdown all the time and also power the Duet from standby power to switch their main outputs on and off via the web control interface.

That's a very elegant solution.

How do you run them in series to get 24V?

EDIT: Would 2 of these work? http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HP-DPS-460BB ... SwtfhYnsfe
Says 36A max. 24x1.2 = 28.8A used by my heated bed alone if I convert to 24V with an SSR.
