I don't know really, when I start project, I don't stop till I'm satisfied with the results. Usually this means late nights and long days. When I have downtime waiting for parts to arrive, i'm still working on the computer drawing up ideas for other projects, checking designs getting ready for production run... I just fit in whatever I can do, when I can.

I'd totally be interested in a machined magnetic joint solution. Would you also have machined parts for the cheapskate side?
Personally, what I'd be willing to pay would depend on what was included, i.e. cheapskate ball mounts, mounting hardware, magnet cups, etc. Basically it would depend on how much work I'd have to do to get it up and running.
That machined effector looks great, btw.

A laser cutter capable of cutting .125" aluminum is veeeery expensive. I'm sure he'd be happy to cut you one if you supplied the laser though!

I dont have a laser cutter Dan, but i'll see what I can do about milling these out at a lower cost but $20 wont even cover the cost of the tooling. Unless there are more people interested.

fitting up the direct drive extruder
Preliminary fit up of the bottom mounted direct drive extruder. the hole for the filament is not in the center but i'll try it anyway till that gets fixed.
compared to the weight of stock stepper of 332grams. this weighs about 226grams, around 240grams with the magnet ball joints installed. not to much lighter but with all the fans/heatsinks installed it should still be under 300 grams.
will need to modify the extruder mount and reprint so the hole is centered. or modify the aluminum affector

the angle of the balls helps with clearance when at the extreme ends of travel. but looking at the design i dont think it will interfere. i'm still testing and fitting up at this point

You'll almost certainly need a heat sink on the PG35L, and possibly a fan which will add to the weight a little.
Are you intending the bend the mounting points as seen on the BerryBot, or are you going to have it remain flat?

doing some research on these little motors. they seem to be unipolar, instead of bipolar. our controllers are bipolar type, I think.
Is this why this motor runs hot?

Sensors look like they're panel mount, so I'd print a panel for it to mount at the top of the towers. Secure panel to side of tower with t-slot nut and bolt, since cheapskates don't go all the way up the tower it shouldn't hit. Then print a magnet mount that takes a 6-32 screw so it can screw in stock hole where the end stop screw goes.

hmm working out the the fit..but i came with up something that mounts it to the outside of the frame. while keeping the stock switch in place for now.... for testing purposes.

got the heat sink, fans and some 3mm filament in today. Looking good to so far, I should be getting the 3m epoxy dp420 adhesive for the mag joints also and I'll be almost ready for test run
