Initially, a home-brew slicer that I've been building.

KISS can handle 3. Others are coming.

Also, have you seen some of my photos of multi-colored whistles? These were done manually but it would be a simple matter to post process gcode to switch which extruder is used by layer in the gcode. Could do a lot of interesting prints that way with 4 colors.

Found this blog about 4 color printing with a beta Kraken reported 1/4/14. Has some great photos and discuss of his mechanical and electronic setup. Good reading while we wait.

Saw that, great writeup but I wish there was a follow-up post as the result was a bit less than optimal (but expected as it was the initial print). Got word of mine arriving Monday, same day a my missing mount for my ezstuder. Sadly I'm away for work all of next week but it will be something to look forward to!

Fedex still says mine is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. Not sure how the 16" of snow we got today will affect that ;)

I don't have my new Azteeg X3 Pro controller yet, should be here soon. Meanwhile, I can figure out how to mount and plumb this little beastie! Locating all of the extruders and filament rolls is the biggest challenge.

Mounting it... I'm hoping things line up to allow the filament to go through the center of the carriage with minimal offset. The spacing is going to be tight though, most likely going to need to use the side holes for the water cooling barbs.

Michael, I also ordered the Kraken after fighting with myself for awhile, it is also supposed to be delivered tomorrow. After buying the Azteeg 3 then you showing the pro, I just
had to buy the pro but Roy wasn't too receptive to a trade so now I have the Azteeq three for another project. I am going to build a Mini Kossel, I'll use it for that. I would be
honored to participate in these threads. At first I will be a knowledge receiver but hopefully I can contribute something. I have not received anything from Roy at Panucatt on when
he is shipping the X3 Pro.

Had you opened the X3? Mine was still packed so he accepted a return. But I did consider keeping it for another project.

Participate away! It should be interesting to say the least. The software to drive 4 extruders is still the biggest weak link. I'm probably going write a layer color change post processor for gcode.

No, the X3 had never been opened. Roy just refused the trade. He probably foresaw a flood of Kraken users who were going to try to trade also and he didn't want anymore.
I don't think any less of him because of it and I will have a future use for it.... Life goes on.

"early bird gets the worm" :)

I would have been o if he said no too. I actually ordered my Pro before asking for the refund. I'd like to build RichRap's little 3DR delta with V-track and 80-20 uprights with mag arms. It can be expanded for a larger base. I'd like a shorter more portable printer to take places.

That 3DR delta looks like a fun project. The Mini Kossel is similar and I have purchased all the parts for it. Too many things to do and with my bad back I can only work as the
pain allows. I might get them all done. :)

I was helping a user via phone a couple of days ago and he just bought a Max. Somehow we got to talking about ages and I told him I was in my early 60's and this dude was
77 years old. I thought it was really neat that he had just bought the Max and was building it with no help.

Just received my Kraken and I am truly surprised by the size, it is TINY!
Nice little surprise in the box too, but I won't disclose what that is.

Got mine too, fedex was FAST. It got to me a day early, despite the weather delay. At any rate, what Eaglezsoar said, tiny and I got a surprise too.

Fedex is still saying before noon today (I'm in Boston) - even with the 18" of snow we got yesterday. It's on the delivery truck!

Did you guys get the invite to the closed google group for Kraken? There is some great info there from the early beta testers. Still a lot of work to be done by everyone to make this beastie sing.

I received the email but there was no link to the group.

We should be able to get this beast to fit pretty nicely. It is very compact. Overall looks pretty nice. I already "dispatched" with the little surprise too.

This is the content of the email I received unless there was one that somehow ended up in my Spam which I deleted.

Hi Krakeneers!

Almost all Krakens have now shipped and you should be receiving them shortly.

To help you understand what everything in the box is we have created this short intro video which should give you all you need to get started putting together and commissioning your Kraken. Please do not tighten up the grub-screws of the heat-breaks without watching the video - it will damage your Kraken. You can find the video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEw4UDUUbIE (Preview)
(Apologies for my horrendous lack of a haircut)

So that everybody can collaborate and share their findings we've created a Google+ group that will serve as a central hub for support and questions. Josh and I will be present there to answer your questions as well as some of the early testers.

Regards,
Josh, Sanjay and Dave

I didn't get that email, I got a direct google+ invite. They may be adding people as they can. Give em a day and then email Sanjay.

Um, if those are the Haribo gummies I'm thinking of (http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000EVQWKC/?tag=buzz0f-20) just throw them away ;)

I don't know what kind of gummies they were, my wife had them gone in 30 seconds.

Kraken dry fit:

Next to the Rostock effector so you can get an idea of scale:

Surprisingly good fit, the Kraken will be slung underneath:

I think with a slightly redesigned effector, the Kraken could be mounted above to reclaim Z travel. A mount that allows rotating the Kraken so the nozzles can be precisely aligned on the X and Y axis seems like the best way to go.

An idea to harness the Kraken on the Rostock Max. Basically, the adapter ring screws to the mounting holes (M3-.5) on the top of Kraken and then itself mounts to the effector. I enlarged 3 of the holes so they clear the hardware for existing screws that attach the posts. I want to be able to move back and forth while I get this monster tamed. A final version would eliminate those. One long side of Kraken is aligned with the X axis. If I design the mounting holes as slots, it might provide enough adjustability to allow precisely aligning the nozzles on X. That would make setting the offsets for the other 3 nozzles very easy.
