Splitting Issue

Hell all, just starting to finally start printing on my Rostock Max V2. Having an odd issue with splitting. Looks like it's right where it moves onto the next layer and does the next pass. ABS filament, Bed 88, Extruder 233. MatterControl set on quality Fine. And ideas? Thanks.

Too much retraction? Do you have retract on layer change enabled?

Your probably losing steps on the retract, or don't have retract/prime set symmetrically.
The easy way to test is to do the print with retract/prime completely disabled, if it doesn't have the split, there is your culprit.
If that's the case, reduce the retract, ensure the retract/prime settings are symmetric and most importantly reduce the speed of the retract/prime.
For historical reasons a lot of people here suggest ludicrous retract rates for a direct drive extruder, there is little to no benefit over about 35 mm/s.

Thanks for the reply. Still learning where everything is. Tried playing with the numbers in this window, only saw retract option and no prime. Andy idea on presets or should I look in another menu?

Change your retraction down to 3 or 4 mm and try again. Mine is set at 4mm, but it seems every printer is a bit different.

On "Length of Move? Tried that and no change. Now trying with "Minimum Travel".

I have
length on Move 4mm
Length on tool change 2mm
speed 23mm/s
z lift .5mm
extra length on restart .1mm
min travel req retraction 20mm
retract when changing islands checked
min extrusion req retraction 1.5mm
wipe after retract checked.

Can you post your part?

Hello Barry, I tried with all the parameters that you mentioned. Still having the issue. Any direction greatly appreciated.

From my experience with ABS, I'd recommend trying one or all of the following....

Block all the drafts you can.
Try a different Slicer.. (Cura/Slic3r)
Slow down the printing speeds

I hope one of these help....

Thanks CR! Got a pretty decent print using Cura, all in tact, no splits. Weird thing was when I tried using Slic3r it would just say error. Wonder whats up with that.

I don't think that's a traditional ABS split. I think it's something MatterSlice is doing for a non-manifold STL. Slic3r usually tries to patch things together, but it's possible the STL is so bad it's giving up.

Slic3r is bugged in mater control from what i understand

Agreed, I believe it was a slicing problem. I did 4 prints and they all split and looked exactly the same in error before resolving it by just switching to Cura.

I have never had any real luck with Slic3r in MC! I use Cura or MS in MC

What part is that? I'd like to give it a shot.
