A few questions about building the v2 (Answered)

I have put the kit together up to the point at which you are to tighten down the top of the base. A few of the nuts in the laser cut "pockets" that should tighten to hold the top and bottom together are spinning in their slots instead of tightening. I believe its 3 on the top and 1 on the bottom that had this problem. Anything I can do to fix this? I can't back them out (because they just spin in place) and the ones that are having problems are on the inside near the pulleys, which makes it pretty difficult to get tools in to help. I am considering using a dremmel to cut the top of the screw off and sliding the nut/screw out the bottom and trying to find bigger square style nuts to put in there instead.

My second question is about the power supply. I have it hooked up and it powers up fine. I was wondering if people still replace it or is the current one pretty good? I have a Corsair 750w modular power supply lying around that I could replace it with.

Thank you for any help. Its my second 3d printer and my first build of a kit. Lucky I am decent at soldering =)

Hi Puresteel and welcome to the Forum!

It is rare for us to hear about the nuts spinning in their laser cut pockets but it does happen. You have said that you would have a difficult time getting a tool in there to hold the nut so the other alternative is to get super glue and let a few drops seep
between the nut and the cutout or possibly hot melt glue doing the same or even epoxy. Let what you use dry an appropriate time for what you use then try to slowly tighten or loosen the nut. If you can get the nut back out, you could hold the nut with
pliers then thread the screw as far as it will go into the nut then remount and try again. The other tool you can try to use is a hemostat, sometimes they will fit in when other tools will not.
Best of luck with this and please let us know how it goes. If this is a fairly new kit, it should have come with the newer power supplies that they changed to which do not look like computer power supplies but rather they are about 6" long, 2" high and have
screws at the front to connect the wires. If you have the newer supply, I would definitely keep it. Make sure you have downloaded the latest assembly manual at http://www.seemecnc.com then go to downloads and choose the guide for the Rostock Max V2.

If you need to talk to SeeMeCNC technical people the best way is to go to their site and click on the chat button on the bottom right of the screen. Please keep us informed!

I would not replace the industrial PSU with an ATX one. It's a better unit, and is less likely to get out of spec from having insufficient draw on other rails. I also have had an issue with a Corsair PSU that I installed (The fuse cooked itself, likely due to a combination of poor airflow and high ambient temps, coupled with a low temp fuse). Admittedly, I did immediately pick out another one to replace it with, but that is because I need the 5V and 3.3V rails for various sub-systems of the printer. Plus you probably don't have the mounting points or drop out for it in a new printer.

If you're spinning the #6-32 lock nuts in their pockets, chances are pretty high that you've cross-threaded the nuts. Pull 'em out and check/replace them.

Alright I bought some long narrow locking pliers and removed the offending pieces. Then I installed new ones carefully checking them to make sure they were good. Everything is fixed now and I am moving on. Thank you for the help guys =)

I had this same problem. While I admit to crossthreading a few here a there, I am certain there were a couple of nuts that just weren't quite snug enough. On one I just jammed my xacto blade next to the knut to make it more snug and it tightened fine.

I suppose it could be ambient temp, or humidity that could alter the hole just enough to let one spin. Not a problem once you figure out the tool options. Hemostats solved the other two for me.
