Hello everyone. This year we decided to get a 3d printer. As we are not really tinker people, we decided to go for a kit to teach us a little about how they are put together so if something goes wrong, we'd know where to look to fix it.

So now our Rostock Max v2 has done over 7 days of printing. The thermistor on the print head was the first item that need replaced, followed by the heat resistors. If I had a do over, I would jump straight to to the heat cartridge mod since I had to do it to fix a few issues we had to start off with.

Now we are up to creating our own 3d print stuff! The detail that we have gotten from the items that we have printed is really good and we are happy with the detail that we get from the prints.

If the elements went bad that quick, I'd suspect not enough rtv was used to cover the resistors... How did you secure the new cartridge/thermistor to the hotend. Cartridges are more capable of starting fires that resistors if a thermal runaway occurs.

Yes, it was the RTV. When I took the hot end off to take a better look at the resistors I saw the problem right away. A big chunk of the RTV was gone from one side. I didn't even bother to check the resistors again with a multimeter, since it would show for certain that one was toast. Now to put the layer fan on and print some PLA and see how that goes.
