Rostock Max v2 - Retraction/Spool Wobble

When the extruder retracts, it pushes material back up into the spool and then quickly pulls it back down. When it does this, the spool lurches and wobbles the machine slightly. I'm concerned it may be introducing printing errors to the parts.

In Simplify3D, here are my Ooze Control settings:

Retraction Distance: 4.00
Extra Restart Distance: 0.00
Retraction Vertical Lift: 0.50
Retraction Speed: 3500.0

Are these excessively far retractions, or excessively fast?

What upgrades to the spool mounting can I pursue to minimize this?

Switching to a turntable style is beneficial. I use 6.5 on the distance and 6600 on the speed with no wobble issue.

Oh? Can you share a photo or two? Did you print an existing design on Thingiverse or similar?

You can find the turntable here: http://repables.com/r/739/ and here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1401333

The simplest solution is to print one of these: http://repables.com/r/204/ - I've got them on all my printers.

I use one of these... All but one of my filament spools fit perfectly. There are others in the container store that are slightly larger, but at $6.99 this works well for me.
