Layer issues on larger prints

I'm having some issues with my layers. I'm not sure what's causing this as most of the part will print just fine and then Ill get these areas were it seems like the filament just didn't melt..

It's odd as this doesn't happen consistantly either, I can have some taller prints come out just fine and then others have these areas.

Any help is appreciated.

My machine is a rostock max v2 with e3d v6 head upgrade and dampers otherwise it's pretty stock. It has been up and running for a week.

These two parts were printed in black PLA at 210 deg and a bed temp of 60 deg

Thank you

Ok I guess the picture attachment tool isn't working. here are three pictures showing whats happening.

- Top layer bad layers as it tapers down
- First layer (bottom) not sure what happen as the other 4 pieces that printed at the same time didn't have this happen

I've been tinkering around and found thst my nozzle diameter was set to 0.5mm the default setting. Since I had installed an e3d v6 hot end while I built my rostock I didn't think of changing this... probably missed it in the instructions...

Anyway after adjusting it I found that the stringing and what appeared to be unmelted or thicker filament lines or strings stopped and started to provide. Cleaner prints!!

I am glad that your troubleshooting paid off!
There are so many settings and parameters and if one is off it effects it as you discovered.
Great Job!
