Hello, welcome!
Screw-on stud thermistor and heater cartridge for the hotend are good mods for the stock hotend.
Astrosyn dampers is great if you want a quieter machine. Some say they can introduce printing artifacts but I still use them.
But... if it's your first printer or your first delta, just build it as it is. No mods are really necessary to get beautiful prints.

It's a very capable machine stock, but an aluminum heat spreader and a sheet of pei couldn't hurt.
You'll wind up needing to modify the hotend with a heat cartridge, but I would build it ad is for now to get a baseline. If you run into issues with the build, stock is going to be a lot easier to troubleshoot since its standard... Adding too many upgrades upfront creates too many variables....

Treat the build manual (download the newest version) as if it is holy writ. go by the words and check against the pictures do not try to assemble just from the pictures.
read the manual in full to the end before you start.
if the smell of the fresh cXXt by laser melamine parts (burned wood smell) bothers you then seal the edges with paint before you remove the protective tape... I did not do this and the small was gone in less than a month.
And other than the noise dampers on the steppers ( i used the cheap cork ones from trick laser http://tricklaser.com/Stepper-motor-ins ... -SMI-3.htm but I understand the astrosyn are a bit more effective ) build it totally stock and use it that way for say 100 hours so you have a baseline to work to if you make upgrades.
and welcome to the forums of the best delta support community there is.
edited for the family crowd... sorry about the typo

The smell of the fresh what? They apparently don't use Profanity filters on this forum.

Would you rather have amusing Typos or the Scunthorpe problem? I know what I'd prefer. most people here are too polite to abuse (or notice) a lack of a profanity filter.Mac The Knife wrote:

Re: new from benton ky
It did not seem right to edit the typo once it had been called out publicly. if i had seen it before it became a topic of conversation of course I would have fixed it (I was taught that using coarse language pointed up a poor vocabulary and lack of imagination and if you knew me socially you would be very unlikely to hear anything much worse than a DAMM IT or in an extreme situation BALLS!)

Well, we could do a minor edit, and replace the two middle letters with XX.

Re: new from benton ky
Personally I think a notifier that lets people know when they've typed that and highlights it, but let's you submit it anyways if you confirm it would be nice, but hey. Sorry for highjacking the thread.
I recomend as a first few upgrades a threaded thermistor, and a aluminum heat-spreader. Beyond that, PEI, cartridge heaters, and other hotends are popular early modifications.

Re: new from benton ky
All of the recommendations for upgrades are great ones to consider, but you really should build the printer as the manual indicates (no upgrades)
then after building and alignment test the printer out for a few weeks without any mods.
After that period of time you will be better able to ascertain what mods and or upgrades you decide are needed.
Happy Building and Printing!

Re: new from benton ky
I have one more newbie question for now. What software do I need to use for the rostock max v2 printer also what is a good beginner software for creating the 3d files as well?

Re: new from benton ky
I suggest you start with Mattercontrol for the Max. If you end up dis-satisfied with it, there are plenty of alternatives (CURA is built in, but the built in Slic3r module is glitchy), such as Simplify3D (Not a fan of a 100$ SW package with no trial and some rather aggressive ToS wordings, but I'm told it's very good), KISS (The free version is very good and you shouldn't need the paid version unless you go multi-extrusion, but the dev is sometimes AWOL for extended periods), Repetier-Host(You'll need to slice elsewhere I believe, as Rep-host is just a communications package), Pronterface, and several others. You can also export to SD cards (One's included with the printer), and print from that most of the time once the printer is calibrated.sgmtino wrote:I have one more newbie question for now. As for beginner 3D suites, Tinkercad is very simple, and Fusion 360 is free (I believe).

Repetier does have Slic3r in it. And is no where near as buggy as Matter Control.

so Repetier is the better one to use starting out? also Tinkercad? What about 123d?

Re: new from benton ky
Repetier is an option. Mattercontrol is what I would start with, as SeemeCNC provides presets for it for the Max and common materials. 123D I believe is largely aimed at taking pictures and getting models (That's 123D catch, which is the only one I've looked at at all)

Re: new from benton ky
Also making those first 2 fan shrouds in abs as the first things you print (following the instruction manual) is such an ego boost that it carries you over any bombs with further calibration... so yes start out with Mater control and the MC slicer to build a base of experience going forward
My E3D V6 is still awaiting assembly and use since my sister gave it to me at Christmas. mostly because i am still learning ABS on the stock hotted I have the Tauman Nylon that was the reason i put it on my wish list but for now the SeeMeCNC hot end has been fine to learn with.
