Hello Gang,

I'm into all kinds of CNC equipment and like updating or converting old equipment to modern controls. I found a great 3 axis Gilson Liquid Handler (Google or check Ebay) at an auction and I'm in the final stages of converting it into a Cartesian style printer. I used a Smoothie Board with external drivers as the steppers were 3A units. This is a really solid unit and I'm looking forward to my first 3D printing experience. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions as I proceed. I'd like to make a build blog when I get some time to give back to these wonderful communities. I'm a retired power lineman with too many hobbies and too little time!

Here's a little tour of my shop for those interested: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTwtNcAUHF4

I'll try to get some pictures or videos of the printer up soon.

Thanks for welcoming me to the group.

Wow sandcrab123 you have a workshop that I am extremely jealous of, you have a lot of tools and lots of equipment to make virtually anything.
Welcome to our Forum and we would love to see pictures of your printer in progress. Thanks for the video and I would like to wish you a Happy and satisfying build.

Great looking shop, sandcrab123! A lot of guys will find it interesting for sure. Did you know, when drilling / tapping aluminum, use only a few drops of rubbing alcohol. You'll be amazed if you've never tried it. Thanks for sharing.

Would denatured alcohol work as well?
