Bondtech QR current settings?

Post by Qdeathstar »

Hello, I am trying to get my bondtech extruder going.

I press the extrude button, but all i get is CLICK CLICK CLICK.

:(

I assume this is probably low stepper current? What should the settings be in RAMBO?

Hi.

I got the stepper driver moving but:

1. It is moving very slow. I get 100mm of filament pushed through, but it takes about 15 seconds to do that?
2. It is moving in the wrong direction. Do i have to hook up my rostock to my computer (need a long usb cable :/) or is there an easier method via EEPROM?

Thanks

On speed, check your Extruder Steps per MM setting. It needs to match reality, whatever that is for this extruder/motor/microstepping setup. And if the steps per mm changed significantly, then likely the other extruder settings need adjusting as well (start feedrate, max feedrate, and acceleration).

Direction can be reversed either in firmware or by swapping the wires for one motor coil (change wires ABCD to either BACD or ABDC).

They should be on the Bondtech website. You can reverse the direction of the stepper by just flipping the connector around. No need to move wires.

You can also reverse direction in firmware.

True, that works because it's a triple reverse. Once each for each reversed coil, and again for swapping the coils. Of course, that means moving all four wires when you use a keyed connector that prevents flipping.

Geneb,

all i can see is this:

Recommended motor current setting: 1.2A
E-steps setting: 492.45 steps/mm

I was also wondering about max extrusion speed/acceleration

Also, the qr is noticeabley louder than the stock extruder, is that expected? I relocated it to the top plate to get it out of the heat chamber so maybe that's why. On retraction it sound like someone is taking a 2x4 to my machine.

I dont think it shpuld make any noise at all.
That might be the vibration. Add some cork or rubber washers between the mount and the motor. Or remove it from the mount and extrude some plastic, just to test.

I don't have a bond tech. But my geared extruder did make some noise when printing. Now that it's on a flying extruder setup is absolutely silent.
