Jumping when starting print (after homing)

Good day folks,
I recently had an exhibit at a local convention that I lugged my Rostock Max v2 to and from a couple times over the 2 day con. Ever since then, when starting a print, the towers would home as usual but when the printer moves the hot end straight down from home to the bed (to put down the first layer) the arms move down in jerks, like move-pause-move-pause-move, rather than the smooth motion that I am accustomed to. The move-pause pattern seems to be exactly the same each time (i.e. always 2 pauses, same distance between pauses, same duration of pauses) and each pause is only a fraction of a second long.
This is the only time that it does this and it does not appear to be interfering with the actual printing process but I'm concerned that this is happening without me making any apparent changes. The only change to my setup since the con was having to reinstall Windows & MatterControl due to an HDD failure. That said, it still happens even with pre-reinstall g-code files that I had on my SDCard.
Could anyone shed any light on why this might be happening and if I should be concerned?
