So I'm in an interesting situation to say the least. A few months ago my father had passed away and left me his Rostock Max V2. So this past week I felt it was time to start playing with this thing, and try to learn something I've literally known nothing about (3d printing).

For me learning to use this printer is a enormous goal of mine, as it makes me feel a little closer to the man that I've looked up to my whole life. One of the big hurdles though has been that I have no documentation for the printer. As we have been sorting my father's things we found tons of parts for the printer (extra hotends, loads of filament, wire, fans, stepper motors, etc) but no documentation. I'm starting to think it was all stored on his computer which no one will ever have access to now.

I have been getting comfortable with the printer's normal functions, although one thing I feel I really need to do is level the bed. I've tried running the "Tower Calc" script through MatterControl with little to no success. I can not for the life of me get an even nozzle height across the bed.

My printer is running Repetier 0.92.3 Firmware. I can see a "Level-Delta" function in the printer's menus.
In "Level-Delta" it looks like I can "Set P1,P2 and P3", "Calculate Leveling", and " Position X,Y, and Z"
I feel I understand what it's going to want to do but like i said without any prior knowledge base on these matters I'm so lost.

Can anyone point me in the right direction in finding the documentation I may need for this?

I believe this printer is using an "FSR"? z-probe?? There are 3 discs under the print bed that hook up to a small processing board next to the Rambo that in the printer.

My father had spoken highly of this online community. And I must say I am happy to be here, although I really wish it was under different circumstances.

If you go to SeeMeCNC's webstore, there is a link to downloads where you'd be able to download the assembly, and user manuals for the V2. For the extra bits, like the fsr probing,,, start a search on this forum.

My condolences for your loss. If the probing system is as he describes, it is indeed using FSR's for probing (Specifically the JohnSL board). If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

As far as what those options in the menu do, I'd need to see the code behind them, which is rather difficult unless you have the computer he used to upload to it, and access to the hard-drive on it (If you don't have the passwords, try plugging it into another computer, if you haven't already, most people don't use encryption). I believe that it's going to be safe to try them (As a little test beforehand, push down on the bed to see if the little lights change on the processing board).

I have been using the printer with some success running from my personal computer (not the onboard card reader)(I've used Repetier Host and MatterControl to do prints so far). I can print small pocket tactics tiles with ok quality, but anything larger the nozzle just gets lifted too high.

To answer your question; there is indeed a board that lights up when pushing on the bed(1 green light that stays lit as the printer is on, and 3 red lights that will turn on depending on where i touch the bed. When I touch the middle of the bed it illuminates them all).

I have found one of his hard drives that I was able to access that he had used to store mostly pictures. There may be a chance he had other things on the drive (after I "got in" I hadn't really done too much snooping as I felt it was disrespectful). But if it could help to look through it, what types of files should I look for? Its not an EEProm file is it?

You're looking for a .INO or .h files, I would search for the term Repetier as well. That would help locating the firmware. If the nozzle lift is consistent, then it's a horizontal radius error. The V2 user manual that Mac mentioned has the instructions for calibrating that.

Ok so I have found 2 .h files where the "Level-Delta" variables are listed although I can not find any manipulation of these said variables. Now that I have found the .h files should there be corresponding .INO files with instances of said variables?

I apologize for my extreme ignorance.

Just out of long term interest, is there a good starting point I can come from? Would it be a good option for me to pick up an arduino kit to build to further my understanding of the foundation of what my printer is made from?

I would much rather take my time and learn at a slower pace than not know much of anything and have to ask a million questions along the way.
