Hi guys,

I just finished my RoMax build and I have to say this is a 10/10 kit, it went together splendidly and is so cleverly designs. SeeMeCNC gets a huge thumbs up.

However I'm completely new to 3D printing and all the software and hardware knowledge that comes with it. I'm at the stage where I need to install the firmware, but the instructions don't mention what to do with the Raspi. I don't know how this will alter the process and I thought I'd seek guidance before going ahead. My main questions are:

- Is the Raspi powered by the USB connection to the Rambo or do I need to power it somehow?

- Is there a guide to understanding what the raspi actually does and how to use it? Thus far I only know it means that somehow I'll be able to do wireless printing with it which is why I bought it but beyond that I have no clue.

- Should I install the firmware as per the guide first and then do something with the Raspi?

If I just need to watch a bunch of YT videos then that's fine, but it's always nice to have someone to clear up things I'm not clear on.

In my case I started printing right from the computer at first, bypassing the RBPi. Once I was satisfied the printer was working I migrated to placing my gcode jobs on the SD card so that I could take the laptop away while it was printing. Only a few days later did I start working on the RBPi interface.

I powered the RBPi using a DC-DC buck converter I got online. It converts from 4-40 VDC down to a voltage you specify using an on-board potentiometer, as long as the VDC you want is at least 1.5 V less than the supply. The ones I bought were about $15 for six of them and they are rated for 3A. I wired the input power from the main 12VDC power supply and spliced in a micro USB cable (red and black wires to the DC converter) to power the RBPi.

But in my case I bought the RBPi separately and did not get the kit from SeeMe. It was out of stock at the time. I don't know if SeeMe includes a 5VDC solution.

In the end I LOVE using the RBPi and Octoprint. I can submit jobs wirelessly and monitor progress from outside of my house. Last night my daughter started a job from her dorm room in college over 150 miles away! I was at the machine to make sure it was OK. One issue, I could not get the built-in WiFi to work on my RBPi 3B yet, so I am using an ethernet cable to my home network. The WiFi is supplied by my home's routers.

Hey Wayne! I was where you are not so long ago! There is a learning curve, but forums are your best ally and a great source for quick answers. Have you printed on the V3 yet? It is SO addicting watching her purr

Thanks for the suggestions all, I may do what Timskloss did and build it up gradually.

I haven't printed yet, just waiting for some filament to arrive . EDIT: It just arrived !

Ha for sure! Well I've got a big roll of PLA to burn through, I think I'll do a few benchy's first to dial it in. Fingers crossed everything is soldered to what it's supposed to be soldered to!!
