SD-Card slot corrupt?!

Post by rabbit »

Dear forum,

as I stated in another thread I am having some issues to print a complex part out of Mattercontrol.
So I tried to use another slicer and export the gcode to use the SD-Slot of my printer.
But when I insert the SD-Card it shows no files on it! There is nothing I could choose!
Tried different cards... same result.

I haven't used the slot for a while... but it worked for sure! Printed tons from it!
Background: I updatet my printer, a Rostock Max V2, with the Cheapskate Carriage Set, the SeeMeCNC EZR Struder,
the HE280 Hotend, the Rostock MAX Ball-Cup Delta Arm Kit and the Hotend Whip.
After some smaller problems it worked good. Today I installed the new firmware, 20161209, same situation.
Are there any known issues? Anybody an idea? :-(

Thank you :-)

Sorry to bother you... I wanted to print some stuff for x-mas... seems like I have to come up with a plan B. :(

Try a new, "known working" SD card. That's definitely the weak link in the system. Also the cheapest, luckily.

thank you for your quick reply Jimustanguitar, the 5th SD-card I tried worked.
I don't get it.
What kind of SD-card is best for the printer?

Thank you so much for helping!
Great to have this board with fantastic people here :)

Wish you all a merry christmas...

I find that class 10 or UHS SD cards (AKA usually the most expensive classes of them), are most reliable, and the cost of even these is pretty cheap. Less than a roll of filament for the largest size and best that the Rambo or Duet supports.
Machines:
Rostock Max V2, Duet .8.5, PT100 enabled E3D V6 and volcano, Raymond style enclosure
Automation Technology 60W laser cutter/engraver
1m X-carve router

The SD card slot on the RAMBO only supports the I2C interface not the more common parallel interface.
Not all modern SD cards support I2C so they simply fail on the RAMBO, typically smaller capacity cards are more likely to work, but there is no way to tell by looking at a card if it will work. Your best bet is to use the card that came with the RAMBO or have someone give you a Brand/Model number of a card that works.

You've got things a bit mixed up. There are no SD card slots on the Rambo. The Reprapdiscount LCD controller has the SD card slot. The SD card is interfaced via the SPI interface, not the I2C interface. (SPI has seperate input and output data lines, while I2C has a bidirectional data line). The SD card family requires basic SPI functionality. You're correct that the reprapdiscount/rambo interface does not support any advanced SD card bus modes. But that's just talking about the hardware.

How a card is formatted and the compatibity of file systems with the host software is another matter entirely. I suspect most of the issues are in this area...but all that doesn't really change the advice of your last sentence. Use what is known to work.
