Has anyone had problems with the Octoprint setup?

They way it's wired it looks like the power switch could turn off the rPi without a proper shutdown which could corrupt the SD card.

There used to be a 'shutdown' selection on the settings pull-down menu but it is gone in the version I am running.

I have been exercising the bad habit of turning off the printer/RBp with reckless abandon and so far have been lucky on SD card corruption. Do RBp's really get corrupted that often?

FWIW, I have just killed the power on all my PIs hundreds of times with no issues. That being said, I corrupted my PI 3 SD card hosting my home automation server this week, and I am paying the price of re configuring a LOT of stuff. I pretty much use Octopi out of the box, so loosing it would not be catastrophic to me, but I do want to find a more eloquent solution. Lowpower labs has a small hardware solution that may work well.

I'm more fond of the LiFePO4wered/Pi, since even if you accidently shut off the power you have time to shut it down properly and it will get you through power flickers. I'm not associated with the project, but I find it cool. https://www.tindie.com/products/xorbit/lifepo4weredpi3/

So as I thought a UPS style solution would be a good idea. I was looking at the LiFePo4ward solution on Tindie.

Would it be simpler just to use a standard Raspberry Pi power supply which cost between $7 and $10?

I feel that from certain perspectives, the answer is both yes and no. It requires running a cable from a wall socket to the Pi, and thus a second wall socket. However, it is definitely cheaper than a Lifepo4wered pi type solution, and likely simpler than a lot of the other ways to power it. I'd go with simply what makes you happy.
