Some adhesion tricks for PLA

Post by ivanhandler »

Have been playing around with adhesion on a delta (Max V3 & an Eris). Have been using blue tape. There are times that different filaments don't adhere very well. I have 2 techniques I have discovered that usually work and also save me from having to print a raft (which never peels off very well).

1). Use very fine sand paper on the tape (I use 220). Sanding the tape and brushing off the surface works wonders in many cases I have seen. I have a ColorFab neutral that I really like, but even when printing at a high temp (220 C), I find it lifting off on the first layer. In many cases sanding the surface is the solution.

2). Elmer's disappearing purple on the blue tape always does the trick if 1) above fails. I only coat it in one direction and either let it sit for 15 minutes or use a hair dryer if I am in a hurry. The only downside here is that I usually get such good adhesion that the print sticks to the tape so that I have to cut into the tape to remove the object. So that means I need to clean the surface and put on more tape. Tape is cheap and it means no struggling to remove objects.
